I've just got a camera hooked up to the computer and downloaded the Skype software. I attempted to connect a video call through Facebook and downloaded the bit of software that it said I had to to use that facility. However, I don't get a video picture when connecting through Facebook, I only get sound, through the built in microphone in the camera. I have had a couple of successful video calls through Skype itself, with everything working. Anyone help me out on this?

Might be you've left Skype running in the system tray or minimized and it has tied up your video camera. Programs can share your sound device but it's not so easy for them to share a webcam. Fully exit Skype then try Facebook again.

    Windows 7 and Firefox

Malcolm the first time you do it you should have been prompted to select some Flash settings. I think your Flash privacy settings are set to *not* allow Flash [via websites] to access your camera - it needs to for the Facebook video chat to work. You can change your Flash settings directly on this webpage. It looks like an image but it's actually a control.

I have now done that, but every time I click the camera symbol in Facebook it prompts me to install the software. This I then do, but it never gets to 'set up complete'. I have waites for ages after the installatons and set up appears to stop but nothing else happens. When I close the box telling me what to doto install the software it asks if I want to end the call with the person that I have been trying to contact, but I have had neither sound nor vision.
    Everything works fine on Skype

Couple of things to try; run Internet Explorer and test out Facebook video in that, if it works then it would point to something Firefox related.

The other thing to try is running Firefox as an Administrator (right click see grab) This may help with getting the software properly installed.
