Visiting Yeovil, Somerset.

Friends,

during the last week in April, I shall be visiting Yeovil. I'm going on a writer's group meeting on the saturday.

So I'll be free late Friday afternoon, all day Sunday and probably monday morning, making my way back to Pembrokeshire.

I haven't been to Yeovil before. Is there anything interesting in the area, photographically speaking? The campsite I'll be staying at is near a reservoir, so that's a start. I'm mostly into landscapes, so I'm sure there is lots to see in Somerset?

Thank you.

Hi Frank,
We used to live in Yeovil until 1987 and I expect it has changed quite a bit.

There is an area called Nine Springs on the outskirts of town which we used to go to.

Ham Hill is fairly near if you have got a car and there are superb views of the countryside.

Glastonbury Tor is a little bit further but doesn't take that long to get to.

Montacute is renowned for its houses and its own house.

Brympton D'Evercy is a beautiful old house.

These places are all within striking distance of Yeovil.

Have fun..there are lots of other places a little bit further away which you will see if you go into the Tourist Information Office which used to be at the bottom of the town near the old railway station.

Cadbury Camp. Montacute House. Fleet Air Arm Museum, Hains Motor Museum, Clevedon Pier on the way back.

Yeovil holds few attraction in itself for photographers but the countryside and stately homes around are good areas. Sherbourne is an attractive town.

East Lambrook Manor Gardens is pretty and only ten minutes out of town, Barrington House ( or maybe Hall - can't remember!) is also supposed to be nice

I work there so tend not to hang around too long if I don't have to!!

Locally it's known as YeoVILE

The town itself has little charm. Your much better getting out and about, Montacute House, Stourhead Gardens and the whole west of Dorset lie within easy driving distance.

Friends,

thank you so much for your suggestions. I'm very grateful.

I shall try to visit as many places as my motorhome allows. It's not too large so I should be ok. Once I've booked into the farm camp site, I shall be able to drive around the area, now that the hour has gone forward.

I'm hoping that I shall have received my new 450D by the time I go away!

Tourist information center is now in the Museum, by the Octagon car park, on Hendford, just up from the mini roundabout on Brunswick Road. Which is just off of the large roundabout bottom of Hendford Hill A37.
