Has anything been decided yet on who the lucky recipient will be for this lens?
Well, I posted on my blog that I am coming up to my 5th year on EPZ and am starting a 365 photo project to mark the occasion, would be nice to use this lens for it.........![]()
I used a Tamron (80-210 zoom) back in the days of 35mm and it was and still is a solid, well built piece of kit, no auto focus, no gimmicks, nothing but it did what it said on the tin, great sharp pictures throught its range and was a joy to use.
But lately, apart from the 90mm macro, Tamron seem to have become the poor cousin to Nikon and Canon for lenses. I have read up plenty about there lenses and overall, seem to be good value for money but I think people seem to want the 'brand' names coupled onto their cameras. I think Tamron have a winner here and will change peoples perception of the all in one lens market.
The biggest thing for me on this lens is the VR function, I do suffer from an unsteady hand and have to rely on a tripod for sharp pictures, so would look forward to using this function. The PZD drive looks and sounds a winner if it is as fast as they claim, nothing worse than trying to lock onto something such as a butterfly only to find the lens hunting for its prey, and by the time it has locked the subject has gone! Time is money, so they say. And the main thing, its range, 18mm, not bad, great for landscapes, then the top end 270mm, maybe a bit less reach than my other zoom, but again if it produces quality images, then worth sacrificing that other 30mm.
Build quality is another key issue, my old one is nearly 20 years old and as good as they day it came out of the box, lets see how this one will fare after 365 days, I am rough with my kit, no compromise, it will get knocked and banged, I am always busy, no time for being careful with my kit, thats why I try and buy the better quality stuff, lets see how this lens can put up with some abuse, not that I will be directly bad with it, just normal work wear I call it.
Lets hope Tamron have produced a winner and put them on the top of the pile.
If I am unlucky enough not to be chosen to test this lens, I am still going for the 365 photo project, I have a big long list of ideas to work through, just need to carry all my stuff around with me........![]()
Good luck to the lucky recipient.
I want one because.... It's the perfect holiday all-in-one lens.
Now, if my house will just stop falling apart so I can stop getting builders in, maybe I could afford a holiday !!?!
Hi Guys,
Thank you for all your posts but only one member could be chosen to road test the lens and that member is David Pritchard (discreetphoton). You'll be able to see where David goes with the lens, what images he takes and his general thoughts about the lens in various blog posts he'll be making. We'll add a link here to the blog shortly.
Cheers,
Nik.

Nice one David - I look forward to seeing your exposure's and comments.
Thanks epZ for being able sho share like this.
Cheers
Stuart
Thank you! The lens arrived at my house on Friday, and I've been blogging since it arrived. Just wanted to wait for the announcement before adding stuff here. Thanks for the opportunity guys, it's lit a fire under my @rs£ again
Roll on this weekend, when I'm off!
And for the record, I'm a professional disability support worker with a voluntary role on the site ![]()
