This government scrappage scheme for boilers - there are some grubby little oiks around who are charging nigh on 5 for an "assessment" of your boiler to see if it's eligible. Don't fall for it and don't let neighbours / family fall for it either. Especially the elderly - these oiks are putting the frighteners on this particular ad and saying better have it done fast before the money runs out.

There is so much information about and it's easy to check eligibility on line or by Freephone free of charge.

Can't stand it when some grubby little toerag starts trying to skim money off the elderly .. grrr

Here's another one to watch for although I think it's a result of large impersonal organisations ticking boxes rather than a deliberate scam.
We signed up with our power supplier for central heating boiler maintenance/ repair insurance. When the engineer gave it it's pre-contract health check he cleaned it, or so he claimed, tested it and condemned it. Not willing to spend out for a new one without a second opinion we called in a local central heating firm. Who cleaned the boiler ( the interior had not been cleaned), tested it and passed it as fit all for 40.00.

    Ooo-er.

What did your contracted firm say when you told them?
