Web hosting recommendations

I realise there have been threads on this before but not recently that I can find and things change. So...

I'm looking for recommendations on web hosting (for a self-built site rather than photium, foliopic, etc). It's not totally a money-no-object job but I'm willing to pay a little more for fast hosting and good service (I don't mind paying for a business rather than home package if it works well).

For the techies, my requirements are:

- php and mysql
- ability to install my own wordpress site (including enough access to set up redirects, etc)
- UK-based, dedicated IP address (not shared with other sites)
- sub-domains
- sub-second load time for static pages (the pages are light enough for this to be possible on a half decent server)
- reasonable tech support (not just the switch it off and on again crowd)
- I'd prefer linux-based hosting

Anyone had any good experiences over the last few months?

I've been using BPWeb for the last 7 years or so, both personally and professionally. Performance is good, and the support spot on for my needs. Nothing fancy but ticks all your boxes. Shared and dedicated hosting both available.

I use UKHosts.com, now called mediamarmot.com. They have Wordpress ready for you to install and configure from scratch and lots of extras and importantly, a good control panel. Also reliable uptime.

Thanks for the recommendations - I'll check them both out. Any more from anyone?

I've helped a lot of people set up sites and I've seen a lot of hosts. NamesCo, Streamline and Fasthosts used to be cutting edge but IMO are big and slow now.

My favourite is Duport . It's one click to install Wordpress, full PHP and MySQL support, lots of FTP features etc. This is a screenshot of the control panel (when logged in).

I use Heart

It's linux based, and their techies are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble.

I recently signed up with HostPapa for my site.
Got a free domain which will remain free while ever I am with them.
Price is good too.
