Be good to know what your current kit is?
Also, is this your first wedding?
What is your budget to upgrade if your kit isnt suitable?

Good to have in the bag would be ' A wedding Photographer '

I currently have a canon eos 400d with lit lens and a tamron 55mm to 200mm lens

You need experience, insurance and people skills before you need to worry about your kit bag...

Here we go again - can we just lock this thread now please moderators???...

Many thanks for your lovely words Scottish. That really helps. Seen as I am new to this site I had no idea rude people like you were on here. I will try to ask professional questions in future that are not too low for you!!!!

It's not about being new or the question being "too low". This forum thread pops up time and time again. If you do a search of the forums I'm sure you will find the answers that you are looking for. I think you will find that the kit you use is of less importance than your people and organisational skills. If you have to ask this question then it's a good indication that you are not yet ready for this immense responsibility.

    Don't take the resposnse personally..

    Andy.

Its nothing to do with professional questions! Its more the fact that if you don't know what you need then you shouldn't be shooting weddings. Its an important day and experience in portraits would tell you what you should need. Unless you are asking because its a friends wedding, and you are not the main tog.

Would be easier if you clarify what you mean, as there is a thread like this nearly once a week. Smile

Everyone is assuming that the OP is the main photographer at the wedding, they don't actually say that. It could be someone just looking for their own record of a friends/relations wedding and wanting to get the best images they can.

Don't be disheartened Andy. Like attitudes towards learner drivers, people have a tendency to forget that they weren't born with certain knowledge and skills.
I'd stick with a couple of lenses that you are comfortable with (the faster the better), a flashgun and a plentiful supply of batteries and memory cards.
Welcome to the fray. Hope this doesn't put you off. I've learned loads from the members on this site.

just make sure you hve spares. of everything you can muster spares of. then shoot what you can , if youve never done a wedding before chances are the photos you want to take will be gone 4 or 5 seconds after youre ready for them. and read some old posts about it - it will get you good advice and help you identify the idiots on here

    hi andy

weddings are the biggest hot potato on any photography forum, mainly because novices want to do them for loads of money and nick work from professional wedding photographers - so that explains the reaction you got above Wink

Lots of batteries, lots of CF cards, lots of flash batteries, lots of ideas, lots of patience, lots of charm, lots of **** jokes to make people smile and lots of energy - that's about it really.
