Can any wedding photographers advise me on wedding photography in low light. I would like to know if i will get accurate exposures without blowing the dress by using say 125th sec f5 with flash to compensate as opposed to getting blurry images due to slow shutter speds in av mode. kindregards, james

I'd say "THUD!", but there'll be so many people already on the ground that the landing will be pretty soft.

James for information on flash try Strobist, you'll learn a lot from there.

Use maximum aperture available on your lens. av mode should be doing that anyway. Consider increasing ISO to help shorten the shutter speed. And then yes you can add flash to help freeze motion further. Manual mode can help as it stop the shutter speed varying wildly depending what you meter off, if the lighting is fairly constant.

Weddings- someone’s special day, it’s not like a model shoot, if you make mistakes you cannot rebook them.

I think you should at least get some work assisting an experienced wedding photographer or spend some time doing hypothetical test shoots in various lighting conditions, until you know that you can do the job competently, or leave it to the pro’s.

Asking questions about camera and flash settings suggests to me that you are a little unsure about your equipment and its capabilities/limitations.
Managing ambient light and flash on location is an art.

Probably not what you want to hear, but that’s my advice, just being honest.

If my memory serves me correctly, On this forum some time ago, James offered to photograph another members wedding for the sum of 2500gbp, Again he is asking questions a complete beginner or someone who has taken some time to read the manual that came with his flash unit should know the answer to. If he has made any money from selling any photographs, he should invest in a couple of wedding and portrait photo courses to get some better knowlege of basic photography, his camera and how to use it.
All the gear and no idea springs to mind. I wonder if James has ever taken on any of the excellent advice other members have taken their time to give or will he just continue to stumble along not understanding the basics of photography but trying to make money from it. To quote Simon_p's opening line, "Weddings- someone’s special day, it’s not like a model shoot, if you make mistakes you cannot rebook them."
