    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good wedding photography course. I have done the First Point Photography course and although a very good course, I would like one that specialises in wedding photography.

Can I ask what you expect a Wedding Photography course to actually teach you?

In my experience, they teach you almost nothing about wedding photography as nothing can teach you to deal with real people in real situations under real conditions other than practical experience. I was even asked to run such a course quite recently and this was my answer.

To be honest, I could run wedding photography courses and fill them every month but weddings are just not something that can be 'taught' in a classroom or studio

It's a common answer but nonetheless true, you would be better off finding a local pro who is prepared to take you on to assist as 2nd shooter or even just bag carrier. Covering several weddings like this will give you much more knowledge and understanding than many hundreds of pounds worth of courses believe me Smile

My two pennies worth of honest opinion Smile

Honest opinion...not often valued on here!.....

    I'd second that opinion.

I agree with Barrie 2 years photographing weddings as a business and cant say I have had 2 go the same way all different all full of surprises.

When you see a wedding photography course and I dont want to sound too cynical here but it is full of people who want to be wedding photographers but need some lovely shots to build a stunning website. Try spending more than a few minutes setting up a shot at the majority of weddings and you are finished, learn to shoot fast and think faster and get it right every time.

Offer to be a pro's second shooter or jump in at the deep end either way probably time better spent than taking turns with 10 other people at shooting a set up done by someone else.

    Again just my honest opinion.

I agree with Baz. Anyone can put a model in a wedding dress and play about with lighting to get nice photos. Time does not allow for this on a wedding day.

Well hasn't that put the Cherry on the Parfait Grin

I did a wedding photgraphy course with Experience Seminars. The morning was taken up with the technical stuff - lenses, camera's, flash, lighting etc and the afternoon was spent in a country village church with two models dressed in their B&G wedding outfits.

Lucian and Barrie are right though, it does not prepare you for the pressures of the day - but it take away a lot of uneccesary technical worries that come up sometimes on the day. €olin

Many thanks for the comments. I have been looking for courses and have noticed exactly what you have mentioned about not having the pressure of the day etc. I didn't know if anyone new of any courses (1 on 1) etc thats ends up with you being No 2 or 3 at a wedding to finish with. Somebody did mention that there are such courses , but couldn't name them, but i have not managed to find them, just didnt know if any people on here had.

I get regular emails from a trainer called Terry Hewlett, based in Wiltshire, who offers some truly amazing courses.

One is to get people to LRPS standard in just one day. Another workshop promises to prepare delegates to set up as a wedding photographer after just one weekend's training.

    Check him out.

It would be a pretty exciting days training if this is anything to go by....

I agree, might be worth the money just to wind up the locals lol

When we hosted a wedding photography workshop, we asked our vicar's permission before using the parish church. It only cost a phone call and it meant that we're still friends with the clergy and churchwardens!
