First convert it to GBP, then add 17.5% VAT. as a rough guide.
.. and there used to be a 4% additional levy. Don't know if that still applies. There's a list somewhere on the Customs & Excise site (as was! Can't get used to their new name!!)
HM Revenue and Customs information here
That's the one Adam!

Interesting reading. Why is a digital camera free of duty, but not a 35mm SLR? Presumably a digital SLR is free of duty?
As I understand it, it's only a lens or complete camera (SLR + Lens) that incurs duty. Camera bodies are exempt. The digital cameras listed will refer to compacts.

What it says is:
Digital, still - free
Film Camera - 35mm SLR - 4.9%
Camera lenses - 6.7%
Just wondered whhere a digital SLR would fit and what the overall rationale was (if there is one)
think you're right, Stolzy..not sure why the differential, probably EU agreements to allow import of `new' technology. Don't forget vat is due on cost + duty
will try and find out why the difference (tomorrow)
couldn't find a good description of why SLRs are treated differently, but the linked article from AP magazine seems to hit the right notes
Digital still cameras - currently exempt from import duty because they are classed as information technology products
hope this is of some use
