What are the import taxes for laptops from America??

I was going to order a new laptop from BhPhoto in America,the order comes to a total of $1311 does anyone know what the import taxes will be?

.. and there used to be a 4% additional levy. Don't know if that still applies. There's a list somewhere on the Customs & Excise site (as was! Can't get used to their new name!!)

Interesting reading. Why is a digital camera free of duty, but not a 35mm SLR? Presumably a digital SLR is free of duty?

What it says is:

Digital, still - free
Film Camera - 35mm SLR - 4.9%
Camera lenses - 6.7%

Just wondered whhere a digital SLR would fit and what the overall rationale was (if there is one)

couldn't find a good description of why SLRs are treated differently, but the linked article from AP magazine seems to hit the right notes

Digital still cameras - currently exempt from import duty because they are classed as information technology products

hope this is of some use
