I've been using plain old point-and-shoot cameras for a while now and I'm growing tired of the lack of features, picture quality, etc... So I have decided to upgrade to a DSLR. I have been doing some research online, and came across the Pentax K-x. From what I have read, including a review published on this site, it seems like a great camera, that's fairly easy to use, with some great features. One thing I am trying to do is keep it under £450, and I've seen this camera online for well under that.
So I what I would like to know is, have any of you had any experience with this camera or what you know about it(including hearsay), what you think about it, and if you think it would be good for a beginner.
Edit: I will mostly be taking photographs of nature, animals, and some action/sports.
i have pentax kx camera. i photograph wildlife .
birds, deer, fox,s ,raccoons, many in motion such as humming birds inflight.
i set center on it. nice detail photo,s & great hi iso shots.

Hi Rob
Personal experience says it's a good all round entry level (and a bit more) DSLR. I've had my k-x just under a year and it has done pretty much all I have asked of it. It certainly has enough bells and whistles to cover most situations, obviously a significant part of the picture quality is the lens you are shooting through as well (and the right one for the right job). It has done me proud covering footy matches and shooting birds and landscapes. Even done a couple of weddings with it (that'll make some wince on here ;o) but it covered them fine).
A lot of people bemoan it taking AA batteries but a couple of sets of eneloop rechargeables or similar and there are no problems. And, if you are ever stuck and out of power - AAs are available anywhere!
The bottom line is it's as good as many other similar level DSLRs. What you really need to do is get hands on one and play with it before you commit. See if it feels good and operates intuitively for you, and it does what you want it to.
Regards
Paul
I have a K-x DSLR and find it easy to handle and produces great results. I enjoy finding an image rather than technical stuff. But there's certainly enough of that to keep you happy if that's what you like!
I take various things, pattern shots, architectural abstracts,(with a standard Pentax 18 - 55mm DAL) big cats (using a Pentax 60 -250mm F4DA*)
One thing I would suggest is to get one in your hands and see how it feels. I have smallish hands and find it ideal, I have a male friend who has a K-x too and he also finds it good. Canon I find are too big for me. I'd always try and handle a camera in a shop before buying, even if you intend to get it on line. That way you'll know whether it feels right for you.
Hope that helps? ![]()
