    I'm using a canon 7D. Would the tamron 18-270 work and does anyone know how it compares to the canon 18-135 which is my current lens.

    The Tamron will work,the newer PZD motor version has a quicker autofocus. However be aware that the super zoom range has compromises in that at each end of the zoom range you will lose sharpness.
    The 7D needs good quality lenses to get the best out of it.

    The 18-270 is an excellent carry around lens. As steve says above you have to be prepared for distortion and either end, especially the wide end. You won't get top notch quality images with the Tamron, but on occasion it's been very surprising.

    Have look through discreetphoton's blog to see what's possible. You might be surprised.

    As a further comment, have a look at the review of it on this site, it gets a good write up. If you live near a Jessops take your camera along and ask to try out a few shots.
