I'm planning to buy my 1st digital camera, I want a compact camera that takes good photos. I've narrowed it down to the Fujifilm Finepix F10 or the Ixus 50. The size of the Ixus attracts me, nice and small to fit in the pocket but I'm thinking the 6.3MP F10 will take better photos as the ISO goes up to 1600 but its slightly bigger and heavier, the battery life also seems excellent on the F10.

Does anyone know about these two cameras, or has one and could help me decide on one!

    Cheers

    Hi

F10 is a cracker no doubt. Battery life astonishing and as you pointed out the iso of 1600 work wonders in low light conditions without an ugly flash.

It is really very light and small, fits in a pocket no problem at all.

Other wonderful features are a great looking grid on the lcd screen for horizons and so many others.

Battery life should be a real consideration - remember these are bespoke batteries for each camera model. so you cannot pop to your local shop and pick up a set of AA's.

The Fuji's are great camera's, and very little shutter lag, the onlt Canon ixus I have used does what it does very well, but the shutter lag is something else.

Get both in your hands and try them out.

There are loads of sites where you can compare image quality, but see what feels right to you.

It's worth looking at Davie's shot - the lack of noise is impressive.

I have similarly looked at an Ixus and an F10 - I would say that from the reviews I have read there is much to recommend the F10. Few uncomplimentary things have been said about it, apart from the lack of a viewfinder and no full manual setting (but perhaps we shouldn't be demanding the latter on a p&s). On the other side, I have friends who are not photographers who use the models from the Ixus range because of their portability and ease, and I am always aggrieved that they take such fantastic shots!

It will be interesting to see how the new line-up of Fuji cameras compare when they arrive.

    Kyd,

i was a little put off at first by lack of viewfinder but with such immense battery life it is not a problem and very quickly gotten used to.

Sometimes would like a live lcd option on my D70s Smile
