    Attention!

Reason: OP's Question answered on page 1 - Discussion now off topic and going round in circles

I no longer post photos on here anymore, but I would like to know what is allowed to be posted on this site? I have seen so many people on here have a really mean sprited view about people who create digitial art, using a program, which takes loads of skill and time. Yet these same people may or may not use photoshop to tweek a photo , but do not seem to become angry about people who do use photoshop. I enjoy taking digital photos as I do not have the skill or patience to learn how to develop film. I also have become rather good at creating a scene from a program. So I just wanted to know really what is allowed to be considered digital as I assumed we all were using a digital cameras which does loads of work before you even download it to your computer. I just makes me a bit angry when folks write rude and un-provoked comments about someones vision, It would be nice if folks on here could actually "Help" and be constructive with comments instead of so mean. I do hope I have been polite in my request for information.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hi Willow.

The site seems quite liberally minded, so pretty much anything goes.

Carry on uploading, and simply ignore the un-provoked comments

In my view any type of work.

You must realise that there will always be people where ever you go that will put others down, get over it and move on for they do not deserve a mere thought.

As long as an image respects site terms and conditions it is welcome. There is a category now for digital art, which is a growing category. Respect cuts boths ways though, anyone uploading is inviting comments both 'good' and 'bad' and feedback on images whether taken with or without a camera will help someone improve. In fact the category you mention has seen a dramatic improvement in what is uploaded, some down to good feedback.

Willow, looks like you're responding to the previous thread about Digital Art, the 3D rendering one. When I opened a new thread to debate what should and what shouldn't be uploaded (eEVERYTHINGzine) it was locked because it was deemed a duplicate.

I wanted a wider debate, as the other thread was more about one person's work.

I'll reiterate my view that if you start with a camera and photograph(s) then composite them skilfully in Photoshop to create a new image it's something I might want to look at. If you produce an image by downloading a 3D model (that someone else created) then render it in a 3D program I'd rather see the resulting image posted at 3D café or one of the many sites catering for machine produced 3D CGI, not on ePHOTOzine.

    Chris

As the site has a section for digital art and digital artists are welcome I think you are out of order.

There are lots of images I don't like to see on this site but others do.

Do you not think it is perhaps you and not they who should look elsewhere to post?

Excellent - just post them! Smile

So long as you make clear in the description that they have been significantly manipulated you are unlikely to get rude comments. But, if you do, use the 'Report Problem' link at the bottom of the appropriate page so that the EPZ team can check the comment and, if need be, delete it.

I don't think he's out of order. I personally don't think digital art has a place on a photography site either. But the site founder/owner (ie Pete) wants it, obviously it does have a place Wink

Comparisons with liking or not liking different genres are not quite correct, as artwork is not a genre of photography. And camparisons with Photoshop enhanced photographs are a little tenuous. I can appreciate the effort that goes into it, but it's not photography, and is a different skillset, surely.

I take it I can start uploading pencil drawings and paintings. After all, I'll need a scanner and Photoshop to get it onto the site, and it uses compositional skill, so it's just like photography, no?

    Willow,

2 things first this site is fairly liberal, So long as it does not cross the boundaries of decency....! Anything goes, Digital art, Computer generated, Whatever.....No problemo....!

Second thing, Lets have some of your work back on the site....Smile

I've been wondering what happened to your PF, My advise is not to take any notice of those who scorn what they don't understand, Or are to short sighted to appreciate other peoples visions...!

If you get comments that are rude or inappropriate, Use the report abuse option.....For this type of behaviour there are very definite rules.....!

    Hi Willow.
I didn't get to see your work, but surely not everyone give negative comments. Why deprive the people who liked your work the privilege of seeing more. Ignore the ignorant and enjoy ephotozine.
I hope to see some of your work soon.
    Pete.

The three categories in the Gallery of:

    1) Digital Art,
    2) Digitally Manipulated,
    3) Specialist, Abstract,

make it clear what is welcome on the site, in my view.

    jas

Thanks for all the answers to my question, I stopped placing my work on here because I felt like I was paying to be abused, I did put on what I liked. I may consider putting some pics on both from my camera and what I render. Who knows, but what I did not want was a huge debate, just a few honest opinions...Thanks

Hi Willow - I never saw your work either but my advice is to be yourself, post your work and ignore the cynics....and there are plenty in life as a whole!

I've come round to your way of thinking. Even though the site is called ePHOTOzine, we can put pretty much upload anything in the Digital Art category. I'm going to try to upload about one a day, like the one I uploaded earlier.
