Someone once told me that true art must contain at least the germ of 'social comment' - I think in general this holds up fairly well in the absence of a better litmus.
Of course it depends on the definition of social comment I guess but I wonder how many shots on ePz qualify on this basis?
What is art? What is photography?
Not again!!!!!
Photography is, to the vast majority of photographers the medium by which a moment in time is captured. It may be considered as art or as social commentary or any other thing you like but essentially its main use is that of recording that moment.
Art is a pile of arranged elephant poo.
When I stamp my feet and say it is OK. 
In fact this post is art as it contains a social comment
In fact I have printed off a few views of my portfolio and stuck them on the wall, squintly with blue tack.
In this way I have created an instalation.
and the spelling mistakes are a coment on my social status and education background.

The web site Now the pictures look good to me, (at least the 1st one) but the Oxford gallery of modern art do not have the pictures but do have the telephone number.
Still the Adams exhibition is good, its just the art bit fools me

Doesn't a tape recorder do this, brass rubbing, piece of plasticene, human eye/skin/brain - they can all record the moment perhaps some less well than others - so no distinction between photography and the impression left on your hand after gripping something?

Yep you have to be right as long as you know it is elephant poo.

If you can quantitfy and measure it, it ceases to be art. If you can discuss it, argue, and draw different views it art
