Glad I don't go hill walking with you! Last time I looked at a map Skye & Assynt were NORTH of Fort Bill while the Lake District is SOUTH.
So either you or your wife seem to have a big geographical deficiency.

I live in Mid Devon and the bag I used depends on what I'm shooting, but where possible I prefer to travel light. Today its a Toploader with 1d4, 70-200 and 580ex & stofen, spare batteries, cards and lens cloth, with a 24-70 in an attached lens case. With a second bag vertex 300 with backup kit & laptop nearby.
