I want to use some Black velvet to make a Background for Flower photographs, But where do you get it from. I have tried fabric shops, and dressmaking shops whithout success. The nearest I could get was some Curtain material, But I was looking for somthing not quite that heavy.
    Thanks

I got mine from a local market stall.

Where abouts in the North West are you from?

If your near Manchester then Abakhan Fabrics on Oldham street will have what youre after (and then some!)

bookmarking in case any suggestions on fine purveyors of black velvet near peterborough crop up !!!

Champagne and guinness ain't it ....

    There's always some on Ebay.
    for example

Try Dunelm - they do loads of fabrics, inexpensive mostly too.

Thank you for your helpful replies. I have tried these already and it would appear that I am just out of luck. I will leave it for a while and try again later.

    Cheers

    Frank

    Ebay still has some.

Your local market stall or cheap material shop should be able to help. I got some black velveteen last year and, more recently, some beige velvet. Both were about 3 a metre, for 1 metre wide cloth.
