I'm looking for some advice on which 35mm SLR to buy second hand. I have only really used digital but as I'm starting the C&G 6923 in September I need a decent film camera. I have a budget of around 100(would like to spend less if possible) and will probably be buying off e-bay.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what to search for.
Thanks in advance.

Pentax Me Super, Olympus OM-10 and Canon A1/AE1 would all be good options and within your price range. All will give you the option of auto exposure and manual exposure (though the OM-10 will need an adapter to get full manual exposure control, but they're cheap enough) All have the benefit of having cheap lenses floating around, especially on ebay.
Things to look out for: ask about the condition of the internals. Ask if the light seals are intact or are sticky (if they're sticky then stay clear). Make sure the mirror foam isn't getting sticky too. Make sure the metering is accurate and the shutter too. If it looks in a bad state, then it probably is.
For prices, check out Ffordes and Mifsuds as a rough guide. Remember you don't want to be paying less than dealer prices.
I've used the ME Super and really liked it, lightweight, compact, loads of lenses knocking about, and produced good results. Not used the OM-10, but there are loads on this site who do and they rave about them. Same for the Canon ones.
Just thought about Ricoh too. A KR-10 super or the KR-10x are both very good cameras performance wise, but not as well built as the others I've mentioned. There are plenty of MInolta's around too, but a lot of them don;t have metering in manual exposure mode, which is a real pain.
Hope that helped and wasn't too much info. Good luck

I personally recomend a Yashica FR1 or a Yashica FX-D.
I use a FR1 as my 35mm backup camera. The camera and lenses are cheap, but the quality is stunning! (Have a look at my portfolio most of the photos taken by FR1).
I also recomend Canon AE1 or A1 great quality lenses+cheap lenses.
Manual cameras are perfect for the C&G course, I used a Nikon FE. I found that manually controlling the aperture and shutter speed made understanding the relationship very easy.
To enable you to complete and take part in all aspects of the course, I would look for the following features:
Depth of field preview
PC flash sync socket
range of lenses from wide angle to telephoto, say 28mm, 50mm & 135mm, or a zoom covering these.
Enjoy!

i learnt on a AE-1, they are quite heavy though, however very simple and the built in meter worked well. ive heawrd good things about the olympus's OM series. however you could probably pick up a cheap Eos on ebay for under 100,
also try www.ffordes.com and go to used they have amassive selection well priced. but ive never actually ordered.
I have an EOS 3000 with 35-80mm Zoom and a Lowe Pro case that I was about to put on eBay. Drop me a mail if you are interested (if you are interested we can discuss price!) - I will hold of sticking it up for a few days!
