    Hi,
I am looking to buy my first DSLR, I currently have a Fujifilm Finepix S602zoom.
I have been looking at Nikon and Canon camera's, at the minute I have settled myself on the Nikon D60, I mainly want the camera for Macro and Landscape photography.
    Can anyone help please,
    Thanks,
    Mandy.

Thanks for quick reply, my budget is about £400 - £450
    thanks,
    Mandy

that should get you the basic body new either canon or nikon

I would recommend going into a shop and trying both see what feels comfortable to you. the other option is 2nd hand probably get a better body that way

Then start saving to get some good glass for your land scape and macro

D60 is an OK camera, But you may be wise to look at the newer D5000, It has many new features, Including a swivel out LCD, That might prove usefull.

For macro and landscape, you are pretty much OK with any body - it's the lens that needs considering. If you'd said you wanted to shoot in the dark, we'd be having a different conversation and it would be the body we were discussing.

I'm a Nikon user and always have been so am not overly familiar with anything else (I've only 'played' with Canons) but I have been looking into an entry-level DSLR for a friend, who is not concerned with upgrading to pro status at any point and just wants to take better pix now, plus to have something to learn more about and grow into.

She's plumped for the Sony A200.

I haven't looked into lenses in depth for her but I understand that Minolta legacy lenses fit (someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) so there's a wide range of affordable lenses available.

Can I suggest rather than getting hung up on one model you've read about, you go into a shop and handle some cameras? The basic entry models from the major manufacturers are all pretty much of a muchness as far as capabilities go. What you should look into is what you intend to do in the future and the lenses you will need for that, and how available and expensive these might be. Between that and how they feel in yiour hand, you should be better placed to make a decision.

PS, this is a thread, the forum is the collection of threads that this is in Wink
