I would discount the 10D, for two reasons
1 age, they are now very 2nd hand and who knows how long sensors will keep on working plus shutter life etc.
2 its not different in terms of image quality etc.
So the 20D or a 30D. Its a price thing. The 30D is everything the 20D is, except with a few extras, spot meter as an example. They use virtualy the same sensor, so no big news there.
One of the last 30D's new is a good buy.
How big is your current investment in Canon and how much are you looking at spending.
Hi all
I'm currently using a fuji s9600 and want to upgrade. I'm looking at getting either a 400D or a 40D. With the exception of the 40D's ability to shoot 6.5fps as opposed to the 400D's 3fps are there any other real significant differences between the two, i.e image quality, noise etc given the price difference? I could get the 400D this week but would have to wait a little longer for the 40D, would it be worth the wait? My level is amateur but I am finding my current camera a bit limiting.
Any help in my choosing would be great as I have never owned a canon.
Hi chris, Personally I would wait, I had a lend of a 40D for a motorsport shoot last week and found it sheer class, I would love one, I use a 5D normaly but the 40 really was good, I had a 350D and found it wanting in a few areas, the 400 MIGHT be due an update so hold off if you can prob till end March.
Steve
Ok differences.
Better AF, its an updated more sensitive cross type sensor.
Longer life shutter mech 100,000 photo's as opposed to 30,000
Second wheel for adjustments
LiveView
Bigger frame buffer
revised sensor with improved High ISO perf
Metal chassis
Custom modes
better grip (subjective)
Bigger screen.
LCD on top panel
Bigger viewfinder
There is probably more.
I upgraded from a 300D to a 30D 6 months ago.
Besides the much better build quality and materials used, depending on the type of photography you take will make a difference in the results you get with the 30D. Personally I take quite a lot of bird shots, so the extra frames/sec capabilty along with the added exposure modes are definate pluses. I would go for a 30D and put some of the cost savings over a 40D towards a decent lens.
