I'm afetr a light meter for landscape shooting with my Xpan II. Can anyone provide any recommendations, comments or experiences with meters for this kind of work.

    Thanks
    Adam

Get any one that combines reflected, incident and flash. They are all good.

Yep. Most have only user selectable aperture, which for landscape work is fine. For user selectable shutter speed you'll need to look at either Gossen digital meters or at the older style with the circular dial. Last w/e I took a look at the Sekonic L508 (I think it is), which is small, light and not too dear - about 120). That model doesn't have spot metering of course; a meter with a spot meter built in will be closer to 400 I think.

What you need depends on the type of film you intend shooting. For slide film, incident metering can't be beaten (and even for negs its useful for setting a ballpark exposure), and a spot meter is more of a luxury. For shooting negs, which need to be exposed for the shadows, a spot meter comes out tops. Especially one with either zone system capabilities or one like the Pentax digital spot meter with its IRE scale.
