Okay, I know about the massive price difference, but if the price wasn't an issue which lens would you go for or which do you have? And why?

Interested in opinions as to which is the best quality.

Also does the Canon 1.4 teleconverter work with the Sigma 180mm?

And what is the quality of the images with a 2.0 teleconverter?

The Canon is an awesome lens.........!

Here is the ePHOTOzine mini review.

If Macro work is your one true passion, This would be the obvious choice.......Smile

I've owned neither but from the numerous articles/comments I've read from people whose opinion I trust, it appears the Sigma is every bit as sharp and capable as the Canon but costing half the price.
The benefits of the Canon would be slightly better build quality and compatibility with Canon extenders, which, if you already own, would be a bonus as buying aditional Sigma convertors will put the initial purchase price nearer the Canon 180mm lens' price.

I answer to your question and if price/money was no object then my choice would be the Canon.

I have the sigma ex 180macro, though not the build of a canon, its very well put together, its very sharp and easy to use, the good ones are still pricey around £300+ used , if you only use one now and again then buy the sigma, if using for a living buy the canon

Paul - I never thought I would hear of you owning a Sigma lens Wink You been telling us for years you would not touch them with a barge pole!

Like Justin I have never used either, but also have read that the canon and sigma are very close in terms of image quality - comparing my sigma 150mm build to the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS the canon is the stronger, but its metal finish will mean its the heavier (and most consider the sigma 180mm a tripod macro - as in its a little too heavy for prolonged handheld use - not saying it cannot be done of course)
