    Thanks for that Mark, thay look pretty good to me. Like the one of the sheep, the lens has isolated it from the b/g quite well. The f/g on the Children of the Corn is picked out well also, against the blurred b/g.

    The shots with it can need a bit of sharpening up and do seem to stand up under some judicious use of USM.

    I've just got the Canon 70 - 300 and am pleased with it so far.
    I had the 100 -400 but it was far too heavy for me to use hand held and hubby has now claimed it. I was pleasantly surprised with my hand held shots with the 70 - 300 at 300 ---- IS seems to do a great job

    On a serious note,Malcolm, I had one of these last year and I thought it was excellent.
    I now have the 70-200F4L, to be honest there isnt that much in it IQ(!) wise.
    the L is bettr built etc, and does not rotate during Zooming and Focussing
