Use a white backround (ideally an infinity cove), this is the easiest way.

It can be "faked" in PS and I'm sure that someone could explain how.

    Use a well-ironed white sheet?

There's an explanation as to how I do it on my shot 'Big and Littler ones' if it's any help.

Where theres a will theres a way - and quite often quite a lots of different ways! Wink

Check out this pic on my folio and I will explain.

I used just one light shot through a white umbrella. The dog was placed on a near as white large sheet of card.

In photoshop I then roughly drew around the dog and used the feather tool to soften the edges. The main bit of the background was then deleted to leave a white background. The magic wand was then used to highlight the rest of the whiter areas around the dog - bit of trial and error to get the right tolerance - feathered again and this was then adjusted in levels to bleach it out. Et voila!

Hope it all makes sense and as I say, there are lots of other ways to do it but thats my method. Wink

Surely a Vantage-esque effect can be achieved by using a big flash and giving +2 stops Smile

better way to do it would be to light the background separately and make sure it meters a good couple of stops over what the subject meters at - it'll be so white it'll blind you

White background shots can be done with just a couple of white sheets and very good natural light. Then use PS to tidy up the image. Of course its a lot easier in a controlled lighting environment such as a studio.

If you get it right you don't need to cut out the subject because it will be noticable unless its very well done.

If you're concerned about shadows behind the subject use a bounce flash to light up then entire area by reflecting of the ceiling, which will add to the ambient light.

You really dont need to spend loads on equipment, as with all areas of photography, you just have to figure out how to do it using the resources at your disposal.

I always carry a white sheet with me for photographing flowers. Hang the sheet behind the flower to get a clear picture of it. Suppose you could fling it over a hedge or wall. I do. Never had a studio. They are expensive.Photograph people as they go about their daily activities- it's more natural and you get those great candid shots. Look at my photographs.

For flowers and small subjects, take a completely out of focus photo of foliage. Have it printed at 16X20 ideally, and fix to a piece of fome-core and set up behing the subject with stakes. Not my idea, got from a recent photo mag.
