No I didn't ue a jig. The base and spindle bosses had a counterbore to take the tube. I heated the bosses and then fitted the tube. When they cooled they were pretty tight anyway. Just tacked them in four places, checked the alignment then welded them up.

Thought I would post a final update on my Gimbal Head project. Now completed and it has turned out really well.
I love making things. Just about to launch into something special which is not photography based so won't say. What you have done is real hairs on the back of the neck. Absopositively brilliant!
