Lists of the best anything worry me a tad.

But as you're asking I'd consider Mike Shrieve the original Santana drummer up there somewhere. Also Rodney Holmes who played with Santana on the Supernatural album/tour.

All good suggestions - but not convinced any of them top Bonham.

Pete - only indulgent bit about Led Zepp was Jones fiddling about with his organ on stage!Smile

    sorry

Keith Moon was probably the best Keith Moon style drummer of all time.

Phil Collins says you've got it all wrong......He is the best drummer or was that Ringo Wink

Yes Bri I do like computer music, but to do computer music well you have to have great ability with sound and structure, just like a good photographer needs to know how to use Photoshop well. Both have talents in different ways...you could say a computer musician is a better artist as he's painting with electonic sound, but that's another thread.

Electronic musicians don't always use drum boxes. Christopher Franke of Tangerine dream had a phase of playing drums on earlier albums. Also some of the lastest intelligent drum and bass artists use live drummers. I was at Fabrik in London and heard some amazing stuff...unknown drummer bashing away with a DJ mixing sounds on top.

Sitka, it was Paul McCartney who said that. Rumour has it he used to re-record Ringo's drumming (as he's a drummer himself.)

Best drummer? Lets not forget Rick Savage of Def Leppard.... anyone who can lose and arm and STILL play drums is worth a mention.

Bonham, Paice - Alex Van Halen is pretty useful.

Neil Pearce of Rush must be up there somewhere surely ?!!

Another vote for Rick Savage (Def Leppard) and Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan). Both very talented.
