Here are my favourite drummers, I wouldn't like to say which was best. I've seen most of these live too...
Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden (awesome right foot)
Dave Lombardo - Slayer
Rick Allen - Def Leppard (awesome full stop)
Cozy Powell
Nick Menza - ex Megadeth
Buddy Rich
Jo Jo Mayer
Virgil Donati
Jeff Campitelli
I'll stop listing now...
If you like the heavier stuff, then Igor Cavalera (think I've spelt that right!) of Sepultura is an amzing talent. Check out some of his tribal stuff on "Roots".
I know this may rattle a few cages, but the majority of suggestions here seem to be firmly rooted in the past!
In the same way that sporting performance is constantly improving due to developing techniques, I believe musical talent is also better today than it was 20-30 years ago.
Sure, there is alo far more dross about (does anyone actually care about the top 40 anymore?), but when it comes to the best drummers and guitarists, surely there must be some amongst the current crop of musicians? Suggestions, anyone?
I've already mentioned Igor Cavalera of Sepultura, and Brann Dailor of Mastodon is probably one of the hottest new talents about at the moment. John Dolmay of System Of A Down is also incredible. Not exactly mainstream music I know, but the best stuff usually isn't.
And as it happens, I think Dragonforce rock! Plastic swords and everything!
Quote: They're no Manowar...
LOL!
sting of the bumblebee anyone?... damn now we are onto bass players!
True. If you like your hard rock waxed, oiled and in a loin cloth, Manowar are the way to go. Not for me, though....
Hmmm guitarists...
Wilko Johnson, rhythm and lead at the same time - cool.
The master Joe Satriani.
And Eddie 'cos, well he's just Eddie. ![]()
