I live in Auckland, New Zealand.

I live on the NZ mainland but I rarely take landscapes.

I was taking a photograph in Washington State of some beautiful woodland growth and the thought struck me "why on earth did I come 12,000 miles for this shot? I'm sure I could have found very similar at home" Actually my direct route was SF through to Denver and I was making a side trip to kill a few days as my host was out of the country. BUT!
But since I rarely take landscapes I guess it shows that the world is similar all over, else I look for similar things becuase they attract me.

Given that both NZ and Washington state contain two of the three areas of temperate rainforest on the planet, I'd say you were pretty unlucky to have picked somewhere so similar to home. You should have tried the redwood forests of northern California for something a little different... Smile

Isn't that like living in Inverness and someone asking what it's like in Ilfracombe.
