One of the G9s two short comings I've noted has been addressed in the G10, with a wider angle zoom. The other is its ability to suck dust and crud into the lens assembly, so I'll be interesting to see how folk get on with the G10. Dust aside, it's a great camera, no really it is! mine gets a lot of use.
Had a look at one last Saturday looks good
Will be using one on the weekend .......Think its a little over priced though but will update after a days shooting
No tilting rear screen
Geoff
I am normally one of the "disengage brain, early adopters" and tend to upgrade just because, but this time I have decided not to upgrade from my G9 to the new G10 becasue I prefer the extra bit of reach the G9 has. Also look at the frequency of updates from the manufacturers and the price reduction over say 9 months, its crazy. My G9 goes everywhere with me, even on bigger events where the 40d and 100-400 are used the G9 is always in the bag, and I feel there is no need to get a new compact when mine works perfectly well, add to that the price premium in the first 3 months of sale and it doesnt stack up, so................ "for this one......I'm out !"

Ive done that route 350D,30D now 40D. I bought a G9 a couple of months back- It does everything I expect from it very well. It goes everywhere with me as well.
If I spent my money on a G10 it would not be for at the least a year - then would the G11 be on the horizon.
14 megapixels is IMHO too much for a compact sensor anyway.
I dont think I will be buying a 50D either!!
Mind you on a different subject it looks as though our 06 Vauxhall Corsa might be upgraded to a new model Fiesta!! No new Cameras then anyway !!
Quote: Because I've just received the G10... Stay tuned.
Can you perhaps say a brief word on the video mode in your review, Matt? The G10 could be a replacement for my Canon S5 IS which does very good, camcorder-challenging video.
Many will, I'm sure, be interested in the noise issues of a tiny sensor with 14Mp on it! So no doubt you will have quite a bit to say about that aspect.... maybe? ![]()
I still have a G5 which is really good, lots of features and RAW. One advantage of changing frequently may be the ability to get something back when selling the previous model, whereas I expect my G5 will be of little value. I shall run it until it collapses! Chris
I have the G2, and a Leica D2.
my wife has a Canon S45
I have just placed an order for a Panasonic LX3.
I considered the G9, but then the G10 exploded on the scene so I put the G9 out of my mind
Good shooting with your new purchase
