    Win 7 Ultra on laptop. Notification of four important and five optinal updat. Selected all important and four optinal, downloaded and restarted as requested. On startup, 'configring windows and do not close' legend displas. Configureing goes to 15% and it fails, reverts and restarts. Th e process repeats, downloads the updates and always failing at 15% of configuring at restart.
    Any suggestions.

    Thanks Justin. This is from my desktop which has had updates with no visible problems. Clicking on the link in yr post take me to yr intended page that describes the issue I experienced on my laptop, but cannot scroll down the page. The page looks and behaves as a normal photozine page, but will not scroll dow and is appears frozen.

    I used Simon's suggestions and it worked like a charm. I hadn't tried to install the updates before this. Ari, you'll find Simon's suggestion on page 2 of the link by Justin.

    Thanks everybody for your help.Grin

    ARI, here's Simon's comment;
    Quote: It appears that the problem is the update KB2647753, if you deselect this you can install all the other updates together then go to the following Microsoft site to download a version of KB2647753:

    I'll give you the link to Microsoft in a minute.

    I had the same problem and I typed msconfig in thr search on the start menu.
    On the general tab tick selective and untick load system services.
    In the services tab tick Hide all microsoft services then ok. Restart and it should be ok.
    The problem comes from too much stuff is still on when it tries to install updates.
    the msconfig does a clean restart.

    Good luck

    It look like MS sent the updates out of sequence.
    I installed all the updates one by one including kb2467753 and they all installed fine with no problems. Alots of patience and a lot of reboots required but it does the trick.

    Straycat, Dave, thks. Doenloaded all and left KB2647753 to last. Down loaded KB2647753 and on restart, message about reconfig bit of registry came, too fact to make a note and went on to start windows. Quite weird.

    AVG and Zonealarm is used. However just started a full system scan of the laptop using Microsoft on line scanner, just in case. The MS on line scanner has picked out a trojan in the past that AVG failed to see.

    Hi ARI, the message regarding reconfig of the registry is standard with some of the windows updates and is nothing to worry about.

    This is why I stopped using AVG and now using Microsoft Security Essentials Antvirus software whis is free from the microsoft website.
