Quote: You obviously misunderstood my post. The mere existence of the world is, for a lot of Christians, evidence that God exists. Full stop. End of. They don't need any other 'proof' and that is why you cannot rationalise with them. I will repeat - that it is why it is called a 'faith'.

Sorry, I think I did misunderstand you - which is why perhaps "rossd" is so correct when he says the world would be a better place if we all stopped arguing! Wink

Quote: Man has been worshipping god(s) or spirits for as long as they have tried to control the environment, so if it wasn't Christianity it would be something else. In that respect your question is redundant.

I agree with you that there would always be something else if it wasn't Christianity and I agree that in that respect, my question is probably redundant.
However, the main point of my question "How would religious people cope without a God?" was to suggest that very notion causes such believers to be in denial through sheer terror or anxiety, along with a desperate need to cling to concepts of certainty. In short, wishful thinking. Smile

Quote: Hmm. "dross"? Freudian slip, perhaps Your God has a funny way of showing love. Would you sacrifice your son for something so utterly futile? I would hope not.
I have some respect for anyone's religious beliefs until they start quoting the Bible or the Koran. As has already been pointed out the God of the Bible is a description of a narcissistic psychopath - "You will worship me and me alone, for there is but one God" - or something to that effect.
I'm sure the force behind the universe or universes is much greater than any God that human beings can dream up in their arrogant and superstitious ignorance.
I don't pretend to know the answers but I think the Biblical God is the most evil, obnoxious monster I've ever heard of - sounds more like a devil, in fact...
And all this original sin b******s - What a load of clap-trap - It's all twaddle - dreamt up by those in power to control the masses - a bit like modern-day Capitalists who are always dreaming up new ways of controlling us.
Bloody Hell, I'm sure I heard a roll of thunder...

BRILLIANTLY PUT, say no more Grin.

Now i want a beer mind you it is 9am so i think ill wait a bit lol......

Quote: I was keen on keeping out of this one but I saw the opening and wondered exactly when the phrase 'having religion rammed down our throats', was used. It always amuses when I see this phrase - and it almost always relates to religion, and christian religion at that. I really dont feel that religion is rammed down our throats more than any other subject we come across but many dont seem to have any tolerance for anyone talking about their beliefs and fait

I have no tolerance for ramming anything down my throat lat alone religion and the reason why is simple, If i wish to learn about something that interests me i will put my whole being and time into learning that something, I will not waste my time listening to something that has no real facts about it, i will however learn what i want to learn about.

That's it for me on this Dribble i am out of here.................
