I am gradually increasing / improving my lens collection for my Canon 350D and one of the options I have at the moment is replacing the kit (18-55) lens.
I can't afford to go for really good Canon lenses, but I was thinking of getting the Sigma 18-50, 2.8. I know it is a digital specific lens, so would become obsolete when I one day upgrade my 350D, but that doesn't concern me too much at the moment.
My main question is ... does anyone have any experience with this lens, and would you say the difference from the kit lens (speed is an obvious advantage) is worth the change ?
Any opinions welcomed

Its a cracking lens in my view but rather heavy. I havent used the kit lens as I bought my 350D without lens. The constant 2.8 is very useful.

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DG 450g
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 645g
The OP is referring to the kit lense which is The EF-S 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 weighing 190g.
Thanks for the responses, really appreciate it.
You can read an excellent review HERE
It's worth reading all of it as they suggest how that particular lens compares to similar models.
For what it's worth I find the reviews on that site particularly accurate, thorough and well written.
Thanks, Justin - that review was good and now opens up a whole new option ... Sigma vs. Tamron, LOL.
Appreciate your input.

I did realise that, but it is like comparing a 600cc motorbike to a 60cc moped, of course one is heavier than the other.
Once you compare it to another 600cc motorbike, it seems quite light in comparison!
