A place on the computer where programs and files can be stored in an organised way. Computer users who were used to older computers and operating systems than the current ones, often refer to folders as 'directories'.

TWAIN (Toolkit Without An Interesting Name!)

A small file thats dropped into the acquire folder of programs such as Photoshop. Then you would go to Twain>Acquire and the computer would connect to the scanner or frame grabber and operate it from within the program.
