A type of memory that can hold data without needing power. It's used in SmartMedia and CompactFlash cards so photographs are safely stored when the camera is switched off.
Most digital cameras have a slot that takes a removable memory card such
as MemoryStick, SmartMedia or CompactFlash. The camera uses this card to store pictures. Several sizes can be purchased from 2Mb to up to 1Gb depending on the make and type.
