I love my canon EOS 600D. I like to hear comments about lens and accessories, but I don't have loads of money so it can be a bit unreal for me sometimes. I used to be in a camera club ( well 6 actually from Yorkshire to Cardiff ) but they all concentrated on two questions " My lens is bigger than yours" or " What rules do we follow to score more points in club competitions". I have seen some of the photos in this group and they are very varied in style and approach. It would be great to create an atmosphere in which the pictures could do some talking too. There are several obvious ways to do this . . . .

a weekly photo challenge for members
a series of case studies how and where particular photographs were taken and processed
a members only critique of the week

I am sure there are plenty more ideas out there too. Does anyone feel the same ? Is there any appetite for any of these ? Does anyone have any other ideas for ways to open discussion about the output from our canons as well as the equipment itself ? Or do I just shut up and crawl back under my stone ??? Wink

You will find most of these idea already being done , you need to look for which group suits you, and there are quite a few.

Kev, Thanks for replying. Obviously I have looked through the forums and groups and seen one or two challenge groups. That is not what i am talking about really. I see things like that not as an end in themselves, but as a means to get discussion going about the images they attract.

( or perhaps it is more a case of you being subtle in saying " yes, get back under your rock ! " Wink )

Kev's right Peter, these ideas have been tried in groups but usually slow down and then grind to a halt because there's too little activity. Groups was built with your kind of ideas in mind and could be really good. Some do work well. Most are dormant.

Thanks for the response Pete. It must be very frustrating for you to open up all these opportunities and then find them not taken on. I am doing what I can through my blog on here - my comments on individual images, entering challenges, etc, so what it must be like for you God only knows. Perhaps the answer is to find a few people who think like i do and build it from grassroots upwards ?

I think the poster means in the way of a weekly critique of one picture Pete, maybe along similar lines to this.
