Ok, I think this is a Boletus type - is has a leathery top, is about 2 or 3 inches high, 4 or 5 inches across the cap, and has a honeycomb texture underneath. I found about 20 or 30, in grass around a conifer in suburban London.

According to my book, it could be a red cracking bolete - but that seems to be in woodlands.

Any ideas?
