The aim of the group is to collect like-minded individuals with an interest in fashion and hair & beauty photography. As a guide I would suggest we are talking commercial images; not necessarily images that will be published but could be published. This specifically excludes portraits and weddings.
Let's see how things go, perhaps in time we can have scheduled image critiques, and discussions around theme development, team building, set building and all the other stuff that goes into a commercial shoot. Look forward to finding out how this works and meeting others.
Steve.

Live shoot today at Somerset House with Jason Evans, Max Pearmain and Mel Arter, streaming starts at 12:00 midday - works really well if you're at a desk just to leave this streaming in the background.

I'm out shooting so I've got to miss it ![]()
Welcome Pablo, keep us posted on your upcoming projects. I've got a creative shoot on Sunday involving snow, smoke and shiny floors...
Well I presume that snow machines, pretty girls and tree sculptures with glass icycles is just so passe no-one bothers to look on here any more!
off to have a hissy fit in the corner....
Crystal - Paul asked:
A lot work for a shot, very good though it is.
How did you come about the idea and how long did it take to set up?
I often find that clients will start from something I've done previously, this is the fourth shoot I've done with this client and we had discussed body crystals before, however she really liked the set I built for the Bruise Room set. The age of the model (too young) meant we were limited on clothing - i.e. we couldn't unclothe her as much as we would have liked and some test shots with the model gave us the pose we were looking for.
I started building the set with my assistant a few days before, then we met on set with the client at approx 7pm the evening before. The hanging of the crystals, along with test shots to prove it, took until 1am, and I finished setting up by 3am. In the meantime we also painted and prepared the tree sculpture for the snow shoot which had 60 glass icycles attached. The crew and models arrived at 9:30 and we wrapped shooting the 3 sets by 19:00, with de-rigging complete by 20:30. Hope that helps.
Paul - see OldTog's response - there are ways to achieve the end effect without doing it all in front of camera, and without a large creative team.
Thanks Grampy -how about some introductions from the group? I guess I ought to kick off...
I'm Steve, now based in Slough with a studio (approx 16' x 24') aimed primarily for commercial hair and beauty. Majority of my clients are hair stylists, beauty techs, and Make-Up Artists (MUAs), providing advertising images, competition work and portfolio images. The centre which houses my studio also contains dance studios so I also supply dance performance and portfolio images. I do a limited amounted of press work, including LFW twice a year.
As an aside I run an event photography business which keeps me busy during December!
I've been in the industry for about 5 years, love the team work and creativity as well as the gadgets and toys.
Steve.
Yes - click "edit" on your image, then on the drop down for "meetings" choose Group: Fashion Interest.
I guess I should join this group as I'm trying to cover more portraitrure, so hopefully this will give me another kick up the backside to produce some work.
I'm Trev, living in Reading and want to produce more portrait/fashion work for 2010, need to stop looking and reading and get out and shoot!!
Trev
Hey Trev glad you found us! Remember no portraiture here - the customer is by your side not in front of the camera - you don't need to convince them they look gorgeous - less bullsh*t!! ![]()
Hi Rich good to meet you. Sorry I'm having a busy month, will be good when December is over - hope everyone's making the most of the festivities! ![]()
How are you all doing for shoots for 2010? I've just placed an order for a pair of burlesque fans and a slipper bath for the studio - fun times ahead!
You might have noticed my bath arrived! I nearly diedwhen the driver phoned to say they'd put the wrong pallet on the lorry as I had lights set up and girl on the way - thankfully he saw sense and go it on its way just in time!
