Personally, I think the image is fantastic without the rain effect in PS - even though it's subtly done, it 'cheapens' it somehow for me. The wet sand ridges just invite the eyes to wander away into the distance until they reach the lighthouse, and then they go out sideways to see what else is around. Lovely processing, and really punchy tones without losing much in the way of atmosphere. Did you dodge the lighthouse itself a bit, or is that a shaft of sunlight on it?
Thank you Tanya for your view and I am not against it! I tend to avoid these types of effect myself generally but I thought it might provide some interesting talking points regarding how far to go with manipulation. I do of course have a 'straight' version without the rain - posted elsewhere. Oddly the 'with rain effect' garners more interest - but like you I prefer the the straight shot.
I did dodge the lighthouse a small amount but there was some light reflected off the sand giving some details in the shadows. I gave it a helping hand. The original shot is a three shot HDR but I blended these lightly as I find full HDR quite unnatural for most subjects and lighting conditions. The sky and sand details are pretty much as seen.
Thanks again for your input- it is really appreciated,
Mal
