Herstmonceux Medieval Event
Currently
Monday 27th August is the popular day for most of us.
If there are no further suggestions I will set up "formally" at the end of this week
Jeff
August Bank Holiday Week-End
What do you think of a trip to the Herstmonceux Medieval Festival for our August meet ?
I am easy on which day but Julie prefers the Saturday
Weather looks very dodgy for Saturday so I'll give Marwell a miss I'm afraid. I don't fancy getting soaked and the animals will be hiding!
Released today, New Functionality To Groups / Events
Probably most of the issues that have been raised have now been taken on board and adrressed on one way or another.
As we have a meet next Saturday 7th down at Marwell Wildlife perhaps a time to try out the new upload to an event the following week ![]()
The only thing I have found relating to Hops / Beer is down in Faversham, Kent
Shepherd Neame Brewery Tour
Faversham Hop Festival 1st / 2nd September
Some New Features to Groups have been implemented one of which is a NEWS section.
But it needs the Group Creator to switch it on ![]()
Also whilst I am here, there was no mention of the May meet neither is there for June & July ![]()
GROUP EXHIBITION
The South East Meets Group 2011 Exhibition, is being held for 2 weeks, at St Mary in the Castle, Hastings.
From 19th May to 1st June 2012.
Those who've attended meets, but have chosen not to take part in the exhibition are all invited to the private viewing on Saturday 19th May, from 4pm - 6pm.
Julie
Well still no internet connection at Home and so a last, for now, comment from me to wish you all a Happy New Year for 2012 and hopefully meet up for a chat at some point.
Plus, of course, there will be the Exhibition of 2011's adventures to organise ![]()
I will be going to the RHS Wisley Butterfly Exhibition end January / beginning February so will contact, by PM, those that have already indicated an interest towards the end of next week ( c 5th January ) to sort out a date, which will be a weekday.
If anyone else would like to come along, please do indicate some preferred dates and I will take that into account before setting up a "meet" calendar event.
My interenet time at the Library is almost finished, so cheerio for now and have a good New Year's Eve if you are going out tonight ![]()
Jeff
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to everyone and all your families !
Had no internet connection at home for two days and no idea when it is going to be available again, so just booked 1/2 hour in the Library ! !
Still hoping to go along to Terry's BWC meet on 27th December.
All the best and have a good time over the next wek or so
Jeff
14th January - 26 February 2012
Butterflies In The Glasshouse, RHS Garden Wisley.
I went this year and hopefully will manage to fit in another visit in 2012, probably a week-day as it will be less crowded and therefore better for using the tripod.
Not sure if anyone is interested but added it here just in case.
Quote: I would like to thank everyone who has come along to all or just some of our trips
Me too ![]()
But the fun's not over, we're still gathering ideas for 2012!
Januarys meet will be a one camera, one lens/jpeg/time limited/themed treasure hunt
Details to be posted for discussion soon.
Also next year, we'd like to include a couple more extended trips. A day trip to Bruge and a long weekend in Cornwall have been mentioned so far.
If you've not yet joined a meet please get in contact and come along.
Also, not to forget our group exhibition! Hopefully sometime in April, details will be posted as soon as it's confirmed.

I would like to thank everyone who has come along to all or just some of our trips, including our "friends" from Hampshire who gave us some excellent suggestions of places to visit and indeed joined us as well for the New Forest trip in October.
We have had some great outings and for me a few good images as well ![]()
Jeff
Hi pablo69 thank you I have to do a shoot this Saturday but i am very interested in meeting up with everyone from here ![]()
RHS Wisley
The weather forecast is looking good for Saturday 24th September so I thought of getting back into some flower photography with a trip to the gardens at RHS Wisley, as they have an early morning opening of 8:00
If anyone else is going along and wants to meet up for a coffee during the day let me know.
Jeff
For those who may be interested, our next meet is Saturday 27th August, a rural night meet at St Huberts Church, Idsworth at 7.30pm (ish)
The meet page is here we'll be having a go at some light painting and if the weather allows, some star trails too!
All are welcome, as usual...
Details have been discussed here as well.
Hi everyone, I have now posted an official page for the SE September meet.
Sarah ![]()
Hi Viv, so glad you have joined our group ![]()
As Jeff has already mentioned I am trying to see if there's enough interest from the group to set up a meet for September at Chatham Historic Dockyard for the Salute to the 40's weekend - should be a good day out! I'll pm you the details and will try and get to see you at Hever soon, have been away and a bit busy for a while!
Sarah*
Welcome to the group Viv ![]()
And thank for you the offer of helping us with an exhibition....
I am sure Julie will be most grateful and will contact you when she becomes aware of it ![]()
Originally the intention was for it to be fairly informal with a "social" event for the group and their family / friends.
Hever Castle... we know it well and have had a couple of "official" meets there but not recently
However, some of us, like myself & Sarah
have popped along there on individual visits as well.
Finding out what is going on is a little difficult, so just a quick recap
27th August - St Huberts, Idsworth evening meet to capture star trails / light painting with torches / flash
17/18 September - Salute To The 40's - Chatham Historic Dockyard ( exact date not yet decided )
Finally Viv, please feel free to chip in with suggestions etc. ... oh and bear in mind more than one "meet" can be organised each month if there are people available ![]()
Jeff
Hi everyone
Have just joined the group. Look forward to attending some of the group meets and meeting other members (I already know Sarah/Sezz). As I work in tourism - currently marketing & PR for Hever Castle - already get to visit some beautiful places and locations. Unfortunately this doesn't mean I always get the opportunity to spend time taking the kind of images I like - hence joining the group!
Juliee - I think your idea of an exhibition is great and I'd be happy to give any support to getting it organised and promoted if needed.
Viv
As commented at the other place, I have spent ages trying to find the group meet (what a **** up the new version is). Hoping to make Idsworth but not sure yet.
Sarah cannot currently access epz so herewith advanced info on the September Meet to the Salute To The 40's at Chatham Dockyard 17 / 18 September.
Details Here
and forum topic here
Quote: I can't work out how to add a members meet on this site anymore, so I've given up
If anyone else has the time, please feel free...
Paul / Graham.... as you have been sorting this out with Julie can you please oblige..... we need to also know the time / meeting place / map location etc.
I did suggest the nearby pub... Red Lion at Chalton but for you to decide ![]()
Our next meet will be on the evening of Saturday 27th August, a rural night meet at St Huberts church, Idsworth on the Sussex/Hampshire border.
We plan to try a bit of light painting, perhaps some star trails, if the weather is right and generally have a go at some stuff in the dark.
All are welcome, please indicate an interest if you'd like to come.
The discussion is here
I can't work out how to add a members meet on this site anymore, so I've given up
If anyone else has the time, please feel free...
Wednesday 3rd August - Hastings
Hi everyone, hope you are all OK and enjoying the warm weather.... who needs to go to Spain ![]()
Not an official get together but I am intending to pop down to Hastings on Wednesday for the day.
A couple of showers forecast until around 15:00 but from then on should be OK
High Tide is around 14:15 so I am intending a re-visit ( after our April trip ) to the rocks / rock pools / foreshore to the East of The Stade.
If anyone is likely to be around and wants to meet up for a coffee / beer just let me know.
Jeff
One of our group was spotted in Park Cameras last Saturday ![]()
Look carefully for, cannot remember his name but let us just call him "thatbloke". In a grren "t" shirt just to the left of the Canon pillar in this epz news item
Park Cameras Imaging Festival 9th July
Way back in the mid to late 1980's they used to have excellent events like this in the Martlets Centre. Studio set up with scantily clad and perhaps even not scantily clad "ladies"
- Miss Park Cameras beauty contest, seminars, deals on equipment prices etc. etc.
I doubt if it will be like the "Good Old Days" but it might be worth a visit if you have nothing else to do that day
![]()
Thought this may be of interest.
South Of England Show 2011
Just checked and I last went in 1994, so I am thinking of going along this year, possibly either on the Thursday / Friday.
Jeff
I see we have a few more new members
Hello to you all. It would be great to hear some opinions from you for our next meet here and also from all those very quiet group members who appear to be hiding. You won't be made to organise anything if you don't want to. Just feel free to join in ![]()
One week to go now until the Royal Wedding on Friday 29th April !
It is NOT an official SE Group meet, but I am going along to Penshurst Place, near Tonbridge,Kent.
So if anyone is interested in popping along for some photography, coffee & a chat instead of being sat in front of the television ( unless of course you have an invite ! ! ) then you are most welcome to join me.
Jeff
Welcome to the group Mike!
Please feel free join in the discussions and meet suggestions. We seem to have a lot of very quiet members!!
The noisy ones are very friendly and hardly ever violent
so don't be scared.
We're aiming to have a meet a month and have so far succeeded. Then at the end of the year (or at the beginning of next year) we'd like to hold a group exhibition, featuring our favorite shots from our meets over the year. The exhibition is still in the discussion stages at the moment, in the group forum, so if anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be great to hear them.
Julie
Perhaps the next Group meet should be in Park Cameras as it appears to be the place where everyone goes on a regular basis ![]()
Tried to sneak in there today but got spotted by another member of our SE Group ! !
All will be revealed, perhaps, in due course ![]()
Jeff
Hi Mandy ( kittycat )
Welcome the the Group, we are a friendly bunch and I still sometimes use a film camera ! !
I assume from the Bodiam image / comments you are friends of Paul & Sonia so hopefully you can come up with some suggestions down your way for a get together for us ![]()
Jeff (JJGEE)
Are there any other Group members that would like to offer some suggestions for the March meet ?
Also, just to jog your memory on the day of the Royal Wedding, Friday 29th April I am going along to Penshurst Place, Kent .
This is not the "official" April get together as it has not been put to a vote, but anyone is welcome to join me for a coffee etc.
Jeff
31st January to 5th February.
Not going to be around this week on epz, but I am still up for the Climping meet on the 19th February and will go along with any plans for the I.O.W. trip, but if you could take into consideration that I am not really interested in visiting museums or interiors ( Like say, Leeds / Hever Castles or Hampton Court ) it would be appreciated if there are alternatives.
See you in a week's time all be well ( and I sincerely hope it is
)
Jeff
Urban night sounds good, would any one be interested in a studio shoot with model? there would be a cost involved of around the £20 mark and would have to have a limit on the numbers of peeps.
I am looking low tide times for Feb at the Stade Hastings for sunrise meet any takes? Not sure on the date as yet but not the 19th obvs.
But possibly the 5th/6th
Ok, lets try and drum up some more interest.
Ideas for meets as discussed today:
New Forest
Dungeness
Isle of Wight
London
An urban night meet
And any others you can think of, all are welcome but it would be good to start nailing down some potential dates.
Ok folks,
If anyone would like a trip out on the day of the Royal Wedding between Kate & Prince William, Friday 29th April 2011 I am going to Penshurst Place, Kent and you would be welcome to join me.
At the moment I am only setting this up in the Group Events section, but if there is sufficient interest from other members then I will set it up as a proper "meet" in members diary section.
Also this is not currently our Monthly meet but an extra trip for those interested.
Please indicate any interest here in the Group comments section.
Jeff
What about a beer with a cream tea Jeff...... yummmmm?
Am afraid it is looking highly unlikely that I am going to make the meet on Sunday if things stay as they are now, so I am going to go tomorrow instead, so that I have played in spirit!
I will attend the meet page after the event so as not to confuse the issue of "waiting in the car park Jeff and no one turning up", hmmm Forest meet, not considerate!
Hope you all have a great day if things change I will ring you Julie as Jeff never has his phone on !!!!
Steve
March.
If you happen to pick my birthday as the meet day I'll either buy a round a drinks in a pub or afternoon cream tea somewhere.
Hoping not ALL of the 60,000+ epz members turn up as I will have to have a re-think on that offer !!
Obviously locations are open to suggestions but having visited Brighton Area / Littlehampton Area for January / February I think in order to encourage others to join us we should go Eastwards / Northwards for March and perhaps not coastal ?
Jeff
Well done arnieg.
The decision is made then. I'll update the vote thread and start a new discussion thread for a Climping beach/Littlehampton harbour meet in Feb.
Once we've agreed on a date, could somebody, who knows the area, add it to the meets section, adding a map/directions etc.
I'll start a vote thread for March in a couple of weeks, so everyone have a think about where you'd like to go.
OK I know this is not at the seaside, fishing vessels, Bodiam / Leeds Castles
etc. and will not appeal to many but thought this might be worth considering as something slightly different to, say, Hever Castle where we have been a couple of times before
Groombridge Place & Gardens
It could be a family day out during the Summer and just meet up for a coffee / lunch during the day.
Just thinking of some different ideas for us to consider ![]()
Jeff
We need some more votes for Februarys meet, we have a tie between Climping/Littlehampton harbour and Dungeness!
Remember you can vote twice (I already have) so can we have some deciding votes please. Anybody want to change their mind?
Feb vote thread
I'll check back again tonight and make a decision if nobody else has.
Reference my previous comment.
Perhaps letting everyone have access to your own RAW files may not be such a good idea after all. I am sure nobody would abuse it but.....
So a slightly different idea, which is possibly much better ![]()
At some point during the "meet" we decide on a couple of subjects / viewpoints, whatever and take a shot, practically at the same moment in time, with our own cameras, then process it and upload to a Forum Topic as suggested above.
Then we comment on each others interpretation, processing etc.
Jeff
Just an idea, not quite sure how it would work though.
Say each month a member of the group makes available the RAW file of a shot taken on a "meet" then we all have a go at processing it and uploading into a Forum Topic here in the Group.
A bit like a "Mod" in the gallery but working with the original file, not a small jpg.
Just for fun and no prizes but maybe we can glean a few tips along the way about processing RAW files, well I might as everyone else appears to have cracked it ![]()
Naturally I wish the couple well, but I am not particularly interested in either going to London to see or watching on TV the Royal wedding between Kate & Prince William.
As it is going to be a Public Holiday on 29th April, a Friday, I wondered if anyone was interested in getting together for a trip to either Hever Castle or Penshurst Place, both in Kent, in the general area of Edenbridge / Tonbridge.
Jeff
Initial January meet here
Please vote for Februarys meet Date to be confirmed.
You don't HAVE to go, just because you voted! So just state your preference. As explained, you can also change your mind and revote.
This is all trial and error, so any ideas for the group are welcomed! ![]()
There has been quite a positive response to Rye / Rye Harbour / Camber Sands so I think this should be a definite and I suggest July time when the weather should be better and the days longer.
It appears that generally the intention is to set up a meet on a regular basis, but I think we should still leave the option open of additional "on the spur of the moment" type get togethers for whoever can make it on the day.
So if only 1 turns up , well, as it was probably your idea and you were going anyway ![]()
e.g. sudden hoar frost in February and a trip to the Forest.
Oh, just a thought.
The British Wildlife Centre ( BWC ) has been mentioned and would definitely be well attended but I respectively suggest we should leave that to Terry ( Terry L ) to organise outwith our SE Group, as he has been setting meets up there for many years.
Jeff
Have just joined the group - well done Julie ![]()
Just noticed Rye mentioned, was here today - always something to photograph! Cobbled streets, the church, the castle, the harbour... oh yes and that wonderful sweet shop! Tried Cherry Sour Balls today - never again, blew the roof of my mouth off, not kidding!!
Back to photograpy, also went to Folkstone this afternoon, an interesting town with a lovely harbour - lots to explore!
Also to add to the ideas pot.. Ightham Mote, Knole Park - I know they are NT Properties but I have never had any problems!
Sarah *
Please add events on our calendar that are taking place in the area. That way, even if a meet is not arranged, we will all know about it and can choose to go along anyway.
I'm adding the Herstmonceux Medieval event in August, I can't seem to find the date of the Brighton Kite festival this year.
Our first list of suggestions from the forum discussion
St Leonard's Forest, Horsham
Brighton
Devils Dyke (sunset)
Dungeness
Cuckmere Haven
Hastings
Jurassic Coast
Hellingley Asylum
Scotney Castle
Bedgebury National Pinetum
Wakehurst Place
Bluebell Railway
Angmering Bluebell woods
Bosham
Bushy Park
The BWC
Amberley Museum
Chatham Dockyard
Leeds Castle
Wilwood trust
Eagle Heights
Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway
My favorite is a walk through London so I would be up for it. Suggest when the weather warms up a little March/April.
The only way to see London is on foot, there is so much to see and lots of photo opportunities.
