I liked the patterns formed in the sand and thought it would look good in black & white to bring out the shapes and tones. Look forward to your + and - comments. Thanks for your time.

Nice shooting from the pier seen this often myself and will shot it now like this thanks for the inspiration, but here there are a few flaws for me.
+ Love the contrasting tones on the legs and the sand
+ The overall sharpness is very appealing
+ Artistic POV and I am sure that the colour shot is even better
- Needs a little cleaning up on the right of the shot
- The cleaning up could have been avoided with more care in the composition in camera
- Upright column in the middle could have been vertical, even though it probably is not at the pier but just for the artistry here and feel of the shot.
Cant wait to shoot one like this for myself soon.
Chen.
Hi Chen,
Thanks for giving your time to offer some great crit of my shot. Yes, point taken about the right-hand side......I can see now I should have cropped or taken more care with composition.
I did think about straightening the image using the middle column, but decided not too as I thought the column on the right-hand side would look too lobsided. I'll try straightening it in Elements now though and see what it looks like!
Hope you enjoy shooting this scene too, and can't wait to see your take on it. I think it could look quite good taken from ground level also.
Cheers
Elaine
+ mono is good, love it
+ textures/shadows
+ patterns in sand
- agree about right side, a bit of cloning perhaps
- clone out the bit top right and continue the column into the corner
- I've been considering if the bottom column finishes too abruptly, i.e. lowering camera to put more space below it, but think you'd lose the interesting bits at the top, so unsure
