This is an old lady living in Hampi, India. She sits on the side of the dust track all day selling peanuts for tiny amounts of money.

She was very happy for me to take photos provided I bought a large quantity of peanuts from her...

Her face was so wrinkled, so weathered and leathery. She looked about 200 years old and her rheumy eyes looked so full of sadness. I know nothing about her really, but just looking at the face I make a load of assumptions. I guess that's what I was trying to convey...

Go on then - let rip with your nice and not so nice comments Smile

Thanks,
Lianna

+ Wonderful detail
+ Great emotion
+ Black and white spot on

- Perhaps a little too close
- Detail on the nose seems a little blown out
- Could do with some more exposure around the eyes (nit picking really)

powerful contact with the eyes
mega detail - definitely looks 200!
love the beard!

you see an awful lot of these kinda travel shots - lot of competition unfortunately
I'm guessing it was in a cool location with lots of potential, often get more interest including that than just a face...
She looks sad - there's no clue as to why...

oozing detail
her expression
b&w conversion

Bit blown out on the nose
Would like to see more of her environment, to put her expression more into context perhaps.
logo (can't think of anything else!)

+good eye contact
+good detail
+effective in mono

- over contrasted, making eyes too dark
- overexposed on the nose
- possibly too tightly framed (although I admit doing this in my portrait work too - and have been criticized for it! Smile

+conveys the great age of the subject.
+good details, especially in the skin.
+B&W makes it work well and is the obvious choice for the image as a whole.

-Highlights distract quite somewhat.
-Don't like the square crop too much.
-For me the eyes look a bit busy with reflections.

Powerful image
Like the B+W treatment
Excellent detail

Same as above really re the overexposure and the reflection in the eyes. Tricky one to avoid as you sometimes have to work so quickly to get these shots.

+Detail
+Eyes, especially all those reflections
+Good tonal range

- Tight square crop, would like to have seen some of her environment
- Maybe over sharpened just a little too much
- Logo, but this is very minor

+ Tight framing
+ Choice of black & white works well
+ Captured a powerfully intense stare

- Vignette too heavy
- Nose too bright
- focus not sharp enough on the eyes
