Robert Thompson is an accomplished wildlife photographer, author and entomologist whose photographs have appeared in many books and magazines throughout Britain and Europe. Close-up and Macro: A Photographer's Guide is split into three parts. Part one covers what hardware you'll need including choosing a camera system to accessories such as tripods, lenses and extension tubes. Part two focuses on putting it all into practice, covering backgrounds, finding subjects and how to photograph flowers and insects as well as many more. The book is 160 pages in total and is available in both soft and hardback and is reasonably priced at £12.99.

The book is very well laid out with colourful inspiring images illustrating everything which Robert is explaining and doesn't show anything which is outside the amateur photographer's reach. He takes each part of close-up photography in turn and explains it clearly without using any overcomplicated terminology. With the aid of this book any keen photographer would be able to learn the basics to close-up photography and produce unique photos of the natural world .
