Hi Everyone,

Some of you have already noticed. We have added a couple of additions to the photo and forum pages.

We display featured news, reviews, techniques, articles, buyers guides, etc. On many occasions this displays relevant links to techniques and articles that might be related to the photo/forum.

We have redesigned the exhibitions section and brought all the venues up to date with a new address format and links to Google Maps. You can now search for exhibitions and venues near your home by postcode (providing you have put your correct postcode in your profile contact details (hidden from public view)). This is also useful if you are going on holiday and intend looking up galleries or exhibitions.

Directory Ease of Use
We have improved the directories for ease of use both browsing and adding. We hope you contribute your listing!

Directory Search
A search has been added and you can now search by the address, postcode, listing name and the products that the listing may offer just to name but a few. Try it!

New Directory List
We have changed the directories home page to show you which new directories have joined the ePHOTOzine group.

Exhibition Ease of Use
We have spent some time to improve the layout and how you add an exhibition in order to make it easy to use and enjoy.

Exhibition Map
We now have a map which makes it easier to see what is coming up and what is going and where it is!

Exhibition Search
A search has now been put in to help you find exhibitions. You can search by address or postcode as well as the exhibition title itself.

Exhibition Photos
We thought that the restriction of one photo was a little limited for an exhibition so we now allow 4 in order for you to see what is coming up!

Past Exhibitions
We now keep those past exhibitions around so you can comment of what you thought of them.

Exhibition Notifications
We now allow notifications for exhibitions so you can keep up with your mates about upcoming exhibitions and talk about what you thought about it afterwards.

Due to recent circumstances, we have changed the Editor's Choice gallery to the new Premier Gallery. Instead of Pete browsing through all the photos on the site and giving his editor's choice award, we have assembled a team of photography professionals to do this. These pros will give out the Premier Awards to the best photos on ePHOTOzine and the Highly Commended Award to photos that are nearly good enough to receive the Premier Award. Editors within the photo industry will then choose photo of the week based on the Premier Awarded photos (such as Will Cheung, Dan Lezano etc).

The current Premier Award Team Members are:

We have now added a pro critique notification for all you e2 people our there who submit photos for our Pro Critique Team. It works in the same way as the modification notifications do. i.e sending via your default notification method. It is on automatically but you can turn it off in your "My Settings". For all you non e2 wanting things like this sign up now for as little as £3.50 from our e2 signup form

We have now set up private messages notifications for all private messages sent to you excluding ones for notifications. If you wish to turn this option off then please go to your "my settings" to do so.

For those of you with e2 you can now order your photos by percentage on the my statistics page. Showing you how many people viewed your picture and how many of them voted.
You can now see your best picture by percentage.

We have a new gallery. The Photo Map Gallery. You can now tag your photos with the location you took it and see them on the map. To help you out we have a quick way of helping you tag your pictures here at Geo Tag my Photos. You can find this at the bottom of your user bar in your portfolios. We have just added the Share This button to forum topics. What does this mean to you? Well, if your saavy and like to share things you find online on social network and social bookmarking sites, then this little button makes it quick and easy to do so.

We have just added one of our most ambitious tutorial sets yet. It's a series of 10 step by step techniques taking you through all the stages of modifying a VW Caravanette. You can follow this and use it on your own car pics.
We look forward to seeing your results in the gallery.

We have launched a new feature that allows e2 members to create virtual exhibitions on ePHOTOzine (Members' exhibitions).

The creator of the exhibition can add contributors so others can upload to the exhibition creating a joint effort.

Exhibitions can be viewed by anyone and are open for 30 days.

The feature also has a new slide show mode to show the photos in the order the exhibition creator chooses.

We have made some more slight modifications to this section. The first being when you create a challenge a small list will appear of other challenges with similar names that may be more appropriate.

The other upgrade that has been done. Is that when you go to your recent activity. You will notice that the challenges number is now linked. This will take you to a section where you will be able to view your photos in 3 sections. The first Closed Challenge Winners are photos that have won now closed challenges. These are challenges that have gone past their closed date.
The second is the Currently Winning Challenges. These are challenges that you are winning but all could change as the challenge is not yet over. The third and final one is all the other entries that you have.

We have made a slight upgrade to the Insert Links button. When you insert a link the box still appears but if you don't highlight anything to link then it will just add the word 'link'.

Also if you accidentally click Insert Link and then 'Cancel' nothing will be inserted.

We have added an option when adding/editing blog entries to hide the entry from search engines (ie: Google, Yahoo, etc).

This may take a couple of days to take affect for any past blog entries as it relies on the Search Engines to come back and see the change.

We are pleased to announce that e2 members now have a personal blog feature.

A blog is like a journal/diary. This allows e2 members to write articles in their portfolio on topics they feel are important to share with others. All blogs have the ability to comment and RSS feeds so its easy to stay up-to-date with anyone's blog.

To start using your blog, go to your portfolio and click 'Blog' in your portfolio bar.

Along with this we have also added the option to receive notifications when your blog entries receive a comment and we also have a Members' Blogs page which shows the latest blog entries sitewide and the top 25 bloggers.

The challenge gallery has been improved we have done the following.
When you vote on a challenge the page no longer has to refresh - just like voting on a picture.
Challenges now can have end dates so that they will end at some point. There are options to set the end date and the stop uploading dates so that you can see all the images before you vote.
We hope you like the improvements and will take fresh look at the challenge gallery.

e2 Members now have the option to receive notifications when a comment is posted on their portfolio.

To turn on this option, go to My Settings > Website Options. At the bottom of the e2 Options, select 'On' for Portfolio Comments Notifications.

This notification will be sent via your default notification method (which you can also set from website options).

We have added a new tool on all articles/news/reviews/techniques which allows you to share the article on 33+ social bookmarking sites, post direct to your blog, email to a friend, SMS and instant message.

To use it, go to an article, click on 'ShareThis' at the top right or down at the bottom of the article. Then from the pop-up window select the social bookmarking site you wish to publish to or post to your blog/myspace.

We have added a Website Option to enable/disable the 'Mark as Good Critique' options on photos that you upload.

So, if you do not wish for others to mark comments as good critique on your photos, disable this option.

There is now an option for all you e2 members who don't like the new critique medals. You can now hide the medals or even the whole good critique green box if you wish. Look in your settings section for the option.

We have just introduced a new feature allowing useful gallery critiques and comments to be marked as helpful. Here's the outline of the idea and how it works. We will create an FAQ in due course

Our idea is to rate a comment/clique, like the mark as helpful option in the forums. To avoid any form of bias/friendly ratings we have made it so that the helpful comments have to be approved before they go live. It may sound complicated, but it's really easy. Here's how

A photo is uploaded.

A number of comments are made.

One stands out as being particularly good critique/helpful comment.

The owner of the photo, or a member browsing (including moderator or critique team) can mark this comment as helpful

This then goes into a pot for approval.

The critique team and mods have access to the comments waiting for approval and can then either approve or reject.

If rejected the comment cannot be submitted again.

Once approved posts get a green panel like they do in the forums.

Owner of useful critique/comment gets a point.

Points add up and can be viewed on member's portfolio with a small icon next to the how long you've been a member stars.
A blue icon appears by anyone's name where 1- 24 critiques have been marked helpful. This changes to yellow for 25 to 49 helpful critiques, silver for 50-99 and gold for 100+.

This will hopefully encourage plenty of worthwhile comments and also make it easier for those wanting to learn as they will be able to look at a photo and instantly see helpful comments.

To ensure we don't end up with thousands of comments to review, if anyone abuses the system by marking everything as helpful they will lose the option to submit comments as helpful in the future, so only use it on comments/critique that really are helpful.

Along with the Members Meetings upgrade, we have also plugged in a new personal calendar. You can access your calendar from your portfolio by clicking on 'My Calendar'. From here you can see all the meetings you have marked as attending.

If you are an e2 member, you get 2 extra features for your calendar. There is the ability to add personal events to your calendar and you also can enable the 'Mini-Calendar' on your portfolio by going to My Settings > Website Options. This allows you to view your calendar at a glance.

If you now go to your settings you will find an option to go to the classic modifications view. If you enable it and go to a modification photo and click on one of the modifications you will no longer get the lightbox. Instead the image will appear just below it along with the description, and the user who uploaded it.

A new feature for all you e2 members out there. User Awards!. You can make an award using our award generator or upload one. When you have done this shortlist you favourite photos or just vote normally.

You can view both from your award manager. You get one vote every 7 days so choose wisely!. View your favourites in your award gallery or everybody elses in the users award gallery!.

Richard's just added a new "My Quick Links" feature for e2 members.
The idea is you can create a personal menu system for our site, bookmarking specific pages/areas you visit regularly on the site, but also bookmarking other websites you visit.

Check out your blue user bar on the right and give it a try. It should be self explanatory.

We have added some more functions for the forums. You now can block forum topics. If you enter a topic and click on Hide Topic at the top when you leave it you will no longer be able to see it in any of the sections. Recent Activity, Search, Hot Topics etc.
To manage hidden topics go to Manage Topic Views from the Forums menu.

Another new feature that we have added is the e2 Mini-Bios on comments.

Clicking an icon on an e2 members comment will pop up a small box with the latest photo they have uploaded and a bit of information about them. This also includes a few quick links to their portfolio.

We have added a bit of a performance tweak to the gallery today. You will find the pagination (links with page numbers) has changed. We now have a box to enter the page number you wish to go to and a few other tweaks that you guys won't notice, except loading speed hopefully.

Richard has added a new feature for e2 members making the PM system much better. If you look at "My Messages" page you will see a new link to Create a Private Message. You no longer have to go searching for a user to PM them. Simply key in the user name and send the PM. To the right of the PM's Send a Message box is Find a Person. Here you can search our database for members using their username or real name. When the members' names appear, click on the one you were looking for to make it appear in the To field of the message. Simple

This also includes the ability to send one message to many people at once.

Ben's created an ePHOTOzine avatar Sudoku. It's in Beta stage, meaning there may be a few bugs. We've made it live for you to play and test, but it's not linked to or promoted on the site yet.

The first game features staff avatars. It's a competitive game so your time gets uploads on to a score table and you only get one go in the competition. The nine members with the fastest times go through to next weeks puzzle and the winner's avatars are used.

Yet another small nifty feature by request:

We now have site wide avatars on all comments and if you don't like seeing avatars and your an e2 member, you can disable avatars.

If you go to your Recent Activity you will see a count of the modifications you have done. Click on that number and you will see all the modifications you have done. You can also delete these modifications (if you wanted to for some reason).

Just letting you know that we now have a new Panoramic feature to the gallery. This will allow e2 members to upload images that are 2000x450px and up to 800k in filesize.

We now have the Reader's Choice Gallery linked to from the gallery home page and from the site PHOTOS drop down menu. David's also cleaned up the menu on the Gallery home page so it should be easier to spot the upload button and the other gallery menus.

The directories sections are now two column for non enhanced pages, making it easier to view more content on one page.

We have added a view count on each photo for e2 members so they can see how an individual photo is performing rather than having to go to the stats page.

We have just added forward and backward buttons in the gallery. Just hover over the left or right of any photo to reveal an arrow and click anywhere in that area to go back or forward through the gallery.

We just changed the gallery upload page so it explains the new V4 upload specs for resized photos. As part of the redesign you're probably aware that the normal gallery size has been increased from 500 to 600pixels.

We have also set a new much higher limit for compression:
normal gallery images raised from 60Kb file size to 100Kb
e2 1000pixel images raised from 200Kb file size to 400Kb

Hopefully this should please everyone, but please still try to keep the file sizes well below these figures by optimising you file before uploading. There's an article [link=http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Resize-your-photos-for-the-web]here[link] that explains how to resize. Ideally we'd like to see 600pixel images at 70k and 1000pixels at 200k.
