Canon introduce ‘I SPY with my Digital Eye’ digital photography competition and series of in-store offers and events. The competition will be held in Canon Digital Centre stores around the UK and Ireland and will award winners with a ride in a Virgin1 hot air balloon. An overall store winner will then be entered into a National competition and the best photograph will be awarded with a trip to Napa Valley, California, USA for a balloon ride over its spectacular vineyards. The competition is live now and deadline for entries is 14th January 2006. Winners will be announced at the end of January 2006.

The debate concerning the longevity of film and photographs viz-a-viz that of digital storage and output took a decided leap forward for the film corner when an old roll of 'ILFORD Selo Extrafinegrain Panchromatic' film was discovered which was able to produce prints of a very reasonable quality.

Epson have launched a photojournalism category for Newsday 2006, the Schools Newspaper of the Year competition. Epson's photojournalism category aims to find the next big photojournalist by encouraging young photographers to use their creativity to tell a story, demonstrating the impact photography has as a form of journalism.
