The artefacts struck me, as well - at first sight, out-of-focus highlights taking on the shape of hte aperture, but I wonder if they're added in processinig...
They simply don't look right: and Forties style would have eliminated them, or made a feature of them as purely optical effects... These look digital to me!
Thanks for the comments guys. the highlights are straight from camera so not added, they are actually form a christmas tree in the background.
