Nice shot Cathy, but lovely though your hands are,for me the emphasis should be on the face.
LOL......thanks for the mods.
Very evocative - was this shot with window light?
Yes, window light with me darkening the BG...
first attempt, i think you have done very well.
As with Maddie...well done
. . seemed to have lost me original comment [between clicking and mods]
. . I originally said: . . " nice light and good pose, but a bit much black each side, I'm not a portrait person, just a preference really"? . . .
. . hence the mod :
This is a very nice posed shot but the difference in colour between your hands and face throws the picture out of balance a bit, but I'm not sure if thats just make up your wearing, or a sun tan, so you either have to put some on your hands to match, not wear it on your face, or take your hands out of your pockets when your walking around on sunny days lol. Any chance of P.D.F.? dragan
Good use of available light, nice pose and beautiful eyes. Well done!
Poochie - LOL, my face was in the shade and my hands were in the light.. I'll have to remember that one too..
Yep i like it ,Maybe a shade too dark !!
it is a striking pose though I do agree that the hands are getting too much attention - much more than the face
Bit dark, would have loved to have seen some hair though, as you appear to meld into the background.
I like the mod by mikearty.
I like the light Cathy, perhaps a crop would reduce the darkness a little, not sure from which side though.I like the position of your hands although a bit light which detracts a little, again perhaps a crop from the bottom..will have a play but hey I'm no portrait expert !!
edit....Sorry,I added two the same..blame it on old age..lol
One tip, don't change your model!
This is a gorgeous portrait, great sense of serenity to it, super pose, so natural.
i can't fault this, nice one Cath.
Funny, cos I've got no problem with the face being a bit darker than the hands. In fact I quite like the way the eye is initially drawn to the hands, then moves up to the face as a sort of discovery.
My one suggestion is that in landscape format like this, you are too central in the frame. Better comp IMO if you were more to the right of the shot and there was more darkness out beyond your right shoulder.
Thanks Dave, that was the idea, that the hands are the initial focal point and then the face is set back in shadow, cover up my wrinkles...
After viewing the mods I totally agree that the right site needs a crop.
Thanks for all your comments, its good to get so much feedback.
Done an alternative :-0 LOL
Thanks for the mod Dave....
Just tried a mod Cathy.
Hope you like it.
Excellent lighting Cathy, the hands are a bit too prominent for me too.
Great eyes though and the lighting is gorgeous...
Thanks for the mod Martin..
Great self portrait.
Lovely portrait, great lighting and pose, you have a great rapport with the lens in this shot - JP
lovely but, the crops a bit tight at the top, if you are going to present your hands so then they should be immaculate to go with the rest of the shot there's a cuticle in need of attention, and your resting your head on the hands has sent your jaw line forward making it more pronounced than it otherwise may be, perhaps neither here nor there but just a thought. I don't know if the ' Dragan ' effect although only slight here is fitting as it has shown ' laughter lines ' more visible than normal I should think. Otherwise a lovely shot.
I don't see anything extra that hasn't already been said. Just remember how quickly the level of light drops off as you move away from the source. Hopefully we will see one with 'the model' smiling perhaps?
Thanks for all your comments..
Lovely SP, great lighting and pose! Lyns x
Super work Cathy. Great light.
looks just fine as it is to me..
stunning image - great atmospheric lighting and nice balanced composition - the dark background adds impact - i could see this working well as an oil painting.
keep up the great work =)

Relaxed pose, beautiful lighting, good use of hands. Central composition adds impact concentrates the viewer. Portrait as I like them. Ron.
