More Portsmouth shots, following the tourist trail and leading with a shot of The Victory's immensely complex bow, mast and rigging. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos on board but it was an interesting tour nonetheless. There are 11 other shots, all with their own captions. I hope they will give you an insight to the fascination of the place for me.
Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy at least some of them.

A great set ... brought back pleasant memories ... thankyou
V3 for a vote today
All of these are just superb Lynne, and it has been really difficult to choose between them. However, there is something extra special for me in V7 - just lovely!

What a lovely series you've gathered here. My vote goes to V7 which is rather special with those lovely reflections and tones, though V8 is extremely appealing too. I do rather covet those wonderful copper containers but not having to keep them in that wonderful well-polished condition!
Ann
An excellent set of photographs Lynne. I'm affraid I can't help you with the quotation on the wheels in V3, but I can tell you that large ships become very hard to stear in heavy weather. As there wasn't anything like power stearing then, they just added more men to the job. I seem to remember that on HMS Warrior, there are three (four?) sets of wheels - one set on each deck - and they needed them. There was also a foot brake that could be used to assist. Stearing positions on lower decks were also neccessary incase the positions on other decks were damaged/destroyed in combat.
All the best,
James
brilliant set, makes me feel guilty for the small amount of effort I put in during my recent visit
Complement of loverly images..10/10 for effort...John
It certainly is a fascinating place, Lynne - visited here several years ago whilst on holiday on the Isle of Wight. A fine set of images, thanks for bringing back memories ![]()

I live near Portsmouth, Lynne, and love this place, must get back there this year. V1 is special to me, love that ship. A fine collection of images.
Hello Lynne, I love them all but my favourite has to be The Victory. The ship is an absolute stunner. It is a shame to see Arc Royal now de-commissioned but hopefully it may remain in Portsmouth along with the other ships.
I am a fan of the writings of Douglas Reeman under his pseudonym of Alexander Kent and the series on Richard Bolitho, so that may explain my love for the old sailing warships. Regards, Richard
You will note in The Victory shot some tenting where maintenance work was being undertaken - painting I think - hence the missing figurehead.
A really good set Lynne, and a good choice for V1.

What a wonderful set Lynne, so much detail and fascinating things to see. I'll give 1/12 of a vote for each, definitely, but v's 1 and 3 stand out if I had to choose. A super series.
Dave.
Wonderful selection of images - I particularly like v7
Helen
Superb set of images, I love them all, living just across the water I have no excuse for not having been to Portsmouth in far to long!!
Hugh
A brilliant collection of sea. The ships are magnificent. I love sailing.
Regards, Oleg.

A beautiful group of pictures of boats. I like v3 very much, surely this one has been digitally manipulated?. Well done WesternRed.
