I have got a very generous friend who has recently lent me her canon 300D. I'm so excited about this and eternally grateful to Nic, (Nic_WA) for entrusting me with this precious loan. So far I've managed to work out how to turn it on (obviously!) and had a few clicks at some of the local flora. This one is the flower of a swordgrass. I've previously uploaded a photo of the same plant but the flowers are a different colour and now that I'm taking more notice of them I have found many different coloured flowers, from pale lemony yellow to orange and deep red. I don't know if there is some factor that determines the colour or if they are all different varieties. Anyway thanks Nic for giving me the use of your camera and I hope in time I will be able to do it justice.

Despite having 'Nikon' engraved on my heart, I'll admit that that's a pretty good camera to have free use of! This is impressive for a first, well controlled exposure and creative use of shallow dof. Now play with your new toy as much as possible, in different conditions and with different subjects, and let it show you what it can do!

New toy = mixed blessing for me - love the adventure, hate the learning curve! So, I do hope you have fun - this is a more than promising start.
Thanks to all. There's no doubt that I will be playing with this as much as possible, in fact my kids are already calling me "papparazzi" and are a bit over their mother practising on them. As for the learning I think the adventure overrides any pain involved.
