I don't know why, maybe you uploaded at a quiet time? The colours look a bit tweaked but it still looks a great image.

I have only just seen this - I like the composition very much, as I love low angle shots....I am definitely not an expert but to me it may be a bit heavy on the blue for such a lovely natural scene...a softer shade may be more sympathetic?

shouldn't worry about how many votes this image got, as long as you are happy with your work thats the main thing. There are lots of great shots on epho that dont get many votes. I like the shot and think the blue tone adds to the image, great work, chase the image not the votes.
All the best
Marc

I think the voting depends on when the image is uploaded and how many people get to look while it's in the first couple of pages. Take a look at my portfolio - I've never got a large number of votes but I'm proud of my photos Vicki... and that's what counts! Keep smiling and keep posting! I think this is a lovely image... Dave

Your right Marc..Thanks! I do chase the images...oh do I...I just need the reassurance sometimes that I'm doing the right thing. That's what I need all you folks for..some real critiquing. When I first began digital photo's...I thought all my images were very good...but now when I look back at them they all pretty much suck. So please feel free...that's how we all learn.

It is nice to get votes as an appreciation of your work and a critique helps with improvement or seeing anothers point of view. MarcB is right though - do not worry about votes so much. The important thing is you getting pleasure from your photography and by uploading hopefully you will get some feedback that will help you grow as a photographer.

A lot of people go "fishing" for votes by commenting/voting on almost everything they see in the hope that they will get a click on their PF and a vote in return.

Timing does play a part in it too I believe although I have uploaded at different times of the day and evening and I cannot say categorically when would be the "ideal" time to upload for votes - not much going on and the pic is not viewed enough - lots of people on and uploading and your image moves off the first two/three pages quickly and loses views as a result. Not worth worrying about.

Stay true to your convictions, enjoy your photography and keep uploading. You will start to see your votes grow in time if your pictures are appealing and captivating.

Alternatively the cynic in me says stick a nude into your pics and you will watch the votes and comments go through the roof!

Seriously stick with it and dont concern yourself too much on votes.

Photography as art is always subjective and what is one mans messiah is anothers hell - you can't please all the people all of the time as some American once said!

For me this is quite a pleasing image with the warm light of the sunrise breaking on to the cool blue of the morning. The light is lovely however, the scene, although tranquil is a little boring. No foreground interest and the pictureis split with the building on the right and the tree cropped off the edge of the opposite side.

I would be tempted to re-crop this losing a lot of the snow in the foreground and cropping in from the left just to lose the tree and its branches so the bit of fence is the edge of the frame - leave a bit of space between the fence and the edge - if neccesary clone out any of the tree branches above that are left in after the crop.

The interest here is the beautiful light breaking over the barn and by doing this crop you will have a stronger image.

You will get plenty of others possibly stating otherwise and the shot is great as is but that is my view and potentially might catch more attention - try it and see?

Hope that helps answer the question you posed however back to my original point - any picture is subjective and another old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". The most important "beholder" is you as the artist of your work (unless of course it is a paid commission then the client needs to be happy with it too!).

Don't give up and keep posting as you clearly have a good eye.

Paul

Sorry I meant to add the first upload in my opinion is a stronger image but I think if you came out a little bit to leave that bit of fence in it would be better.

It all depends on when you upload an image i think? arount 5.30 till 8 is the golden hours for votes, most people have been at work all day and choose to look at EPZ around this time scale i think. Unless that is the image is a knockout image then it is clicked all day long. As to why you got 2 votes earlier I have no idea it is not everyones cup of tea mabey?

Totally agree with Paul. Some of what I thought were my best images got a few votes while others got a lot more. I popped in to your PF and loved both " In the MIst " shots as well as many of the other images. I don't worry about votes , in my PF intro I say exactly what Paul says " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" you have many excellent images which show you have a very good eye. try Paul;s suggestion , it's what I would do as well and good luck with your photography.
Best wishes for 2010, Mary

Seems to have quite a bit going for it to me - more than two votes worth anyway! Perhaps cutting through the tree on the left isn't ideal, and maybe the blues are just a little strong, but I've seen far worse things with loads of votes. Don't take the lack of votes personally - maybe it just got lost in the crowd.

Best wishes,

Michael

I agree with everything Paul has said - I could not put it better, Vicki. I think your last two images each has its merits - slightly different compositions. The most important thing is to enjoy your photography no matter what. I have found that images which I have posted and thought to be rather good did not necessarily find favour, yet others which I considered less good seemed to do the opposite.
Ronnie.

To be honest I would'nt vote for this either. It's not a bad pic by a long chalk, in fact I like the blue tones, the light and the content. For me your composition lets this down badly .... it's too "square on" for my liking, and chopping the tree in half was a bad idea too. Maybe explore other angles rather than the obvious when taking shots like this. So as I say, it's a very reasonable pic but there are far better examples on EPZ.

Votes are not that important, or significant in my opinion. What counts is your own satisfaction, from showing your work. Comments, especially those which seek to give positive advice, are the most important aspects of this superb Online photo mag.

I really like this picture and would expect it to receive about 50 votes. I crawl on my hands and knees and get my best picture ever
and it hardly gets votes. but a blue Tit always gets about 50, because that's what most people like!
Best regards Alan

I think you have a lovely style that is pleasant to look at. Some will like what you do and some will not. I too sometimes get disappointed and sometimes surprised. It is important that you enjoy what you do. You have a distinctive style I have noticed. Remember you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. It is true that some people just vote for the sake of it. However in the beginning it's hard to get noticed I found. There are so many people on here. Time does make a difference true but if you find something in here you like by all means vote on it. Tell the truth and you will get noticed a little quicker I believe. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. This is a great site to help you improove. You will never please everyone though. Just enjoy yourself.
Regards
Ann
