the chairs on the right deserve their own interpretation 
Mathematics....you'll be constructing a distribution graph next. And whilst we're on the subject, why do they locals eschew the luxury of the padded chairs??

It's interesting to see how the - apparently - comfy chairs have been forsaken for the practical ones.
