Hi Mark,
By your own admission this was a mistake and I do rather think that it's missed the mark!
I've seriously cropped it and turned the remains into something of an abstract.
You probably wouldn't want it on your wall but it's an idea!
On a more serious not, it's never a good idea to use a frame (or background) that's the same colour as the predominant one in your image.

Edit; I've uploaded a mod. with a brief description of what I did but I should have added that I extended the canvas using the 'content aware fill tool' and cloned in a bit more plant life.
The problem here is that you are already satisfied with this. That is OK, and i aleays say that if the author likes the result whatever anyone else says is irrelevant. However, I'm afraid I have to say that it doesn't work for me - and there is little I can suggest.
It is almost impossible to guess what your intended image would look like.
